Dead End

KC Circuit isn't a race track. She's a normal teenage girl who takes a fancy to training sports or self defense, or painting with metallics.

Her life is really put to the test when everything changes. The once crowded streets of her hometown, Silverville, are teeming with parasites so vicious, it can change the way of humanity. And not in the way that people the way that people die, and come crawling back to life.
Zombies. And they're out to get her.

1. Gone

'KC, were heading out of town for a while.'

KC's mum gave an awkward sideways glance at her dad. Her father looked no different to how he normally did. The usual graying hair was a light silver now, shining in the florescent light of the kitchen glow. His glasses were perched on his nose, and with the tip of his fore finger, he pushed them up so they stopped just below his eyebrows. He smiled weakly at KC.

'We'll be home before the end of the week. We've got a few meals stored away somewhere...' he pretended to look interested in something else. Her mother coughed, drawing KC's attention back to her.

'You'll be okay. Your 15, I'm sure you can handle a couple of days by yourself. Invite Katie around if it makes you feel any safer.'

Then they were gone. A few brief, wet kisses were planted on either KC's forehead or chin, then the front door slammed. Loud. The car was off down the drive with a few chugs of regret. KC stood alone in the brightly lit kitchen, nothing but the emptiness of the house to assure her she was alone. And of course, the disappearance of the car.

They'd left so quickly. It was almost as if they'd arrived home late from work. KC wanted to make sure that they were gone.

She took the stairs two at a time, until she reached the dark landing. She switched on a light, and made her way slowly towards her parents bedroom. She'd only been in there very rarely. Her hand gripped the door handle and she pulled down, and pushed open the door. The curtains were pulled across, the only light seeping through a few holes, and the gaps around the edges. To KC's horror, the bedroom was...empty. The bed and side table were still there, but the wardrobe doors were left open, revealing the bare wooden walls. A few iron hooks and one single bed sheet. All the clothes that had been there previously were gone. No trace.

KC's heart rate shot up. Why would they need to take all their clothes? They said they were going to come back! Were they just overly attached to their clothing?

I'm calling Katie.
