3. Chapter Three

"Gwen, we're home!" Said a voice as the front door opened.

"Mariea, we're in the living room. I need the Twins to go and change into their nice street clothes. Nick, come here."

The Twins walked into the living room and dropped their stuff off onto the bench. Nick walked into the room and went to Gwen, tears sliding down his face.

Gwen picked him up and looked at him with concern. "Nicky, what happened? Did someone hurt you?"

Nick sniffled and rubbed his eyes. "Sissy, where's Daddy? Why are people mean to me?"

Gwen took a deep breath and hugged Nick tightly. She looked over at LeeAnne and sighed. "Daddy is with God. He saved Daddy from more hurt. Now, tell me, who was mean to you?!"

"Jared was mean to me. He hit me. He yelled at me. He called me a family killer. What does that mean? Why was he so mean to me?"

"Did he say these things to you in class?"

"Lee, I need you to watch the Twins. Nick and I are going to his school. Get in the car, Nick. Lets go."

Gwen drove to Nick's school in a fury. When she got there, she helped Nick out of his car seat. She then proceeded to practically drag him into the school.

"I'm sorry, Miss. We are just closing the school. You'll have to come back in the morning or some other time tomorrow." The principal told her as they were walking to the main office.

Gwen looked the principal in the eye and said, "There is no way that is going to happen. I need to speak with you. NOW!!!"

The principal looked astonished as he was yelled at by an 18 year old high school student.

     "And why is that?"

"My son has been made fun of about things that are happening in our family and I want it stopped. Now. This child, Jared Kisatoski needs to be dealt with. And don't give me any crap about how their age is going to hinder the knowing of what's right and what's wrong. He called my son a 'family killer'. My son is six YEARS OLD! He lost his father yesterday and our mother abandoned us a year ago to the day. I WILL NOT TOLERATE HIM BEING TREATED IN THIS WAY!!! Do you hear me?!" Gwen snapped, pounding the wall in frustration.

"Ma'am, calm down. This is your son? You're only 18 years old! How exactly is he YOUR son?!"

"I am his guardian. He is my son. If you need any freaking proof of that, you can look it up. MY FATHER DIED TODAY AT 12:02 am! You can save your crap for a different mother. I've raised him since he was a toddler. He's my son. Now, call his tormentor's parents and get it all STOPPED!"

"I'm afraid that isn't going to happen, Miss...?"

"As I said, I'm afraid that isn't going to happen, Miss Montgomery."

     "And why's that?!"

     "You're speaking to Jared's father."

"Well, Mister Kisatoski, I suggest that you get control over your monkey child or I'll deal with him PERSONALLY!"

     "Is that a threat?"

Gwen smirked and said as she turned to leave, "Only if it needs to be. Good day to you."

"You're Mommy?" Nick asked once they were back in the car and on their way home.

She sighed, knowing that this question was going to come up soon enough. "Honey, for as long as I can remember, I've been your mother. I've raised you, loved you, taken care of you, and protected you. Yes, I'm Mommy. You will always have me as a Mommy. And you can call me that if you wish to. I love you."

     "I love you too."

Gwen smiled and pulled into the driveway. "I love you too."
