Please Save Me

Alexis is a 16 year old girl who not only is bullied at school, but is having MAJOR problems at home. Her best (and only) friend, Harry Styles, is the only one who sticks up for her. The only escapes she has from her life are drama class and a tiny library filled with books. Her drama class is doing the musical Les Miserables, and you should watch the movie if you haven't already. But what happens when she loses her memory in a gun accident and doesn't remember ever loving Harry?

2. Chapter 2

The next morning, I walked to school, as usual. I walked into first period, my least favorite class. There’s no seating chart, so everyone sits wherever they want, and never next to me; probably because I’m and outcast, or a ‘Misfit Toy’ as I like to call it.

I sit in my usual spot in the back of the class. The bell rings, and the rest of the students file in. My table is the only one that is not filled, of course.

I think of the latest book I’ve been reading, where everything is happy and the princess finally finds her true love, and-

“What do you think, Ms. Mobley?” the English teacher asked.

“Uhm, could you please repeat the question?” I asked; my voice cracking. Some girls near me giggled.

“I said, what do you think about how the title of the book Night connects with the rest of the book. Oh yeah, Holocaust book, right.

“Well, it’s kind of like the main character’s life is like an endless night with sadness and darkness,” I say. I know how this kid feels.

“Very good, now…” I don’t listen to the rest of the teacher’s sentence, because I am already thinking about my book again.

My next class is one of my favorites, because it’s with my best (and only) friend, Harry. It’s weird that he’s not popular, but he doesn’t like the spotlight. That is, unless he’s on the stage.

I take my seat next to Harry, and see several girls glaring at me. Harry’s hot, that’s why it’s weird that he’s not popular. He has curly brown hair and bright green eyes, and he’s really tall.

“Hey Al,” he said, using my nickname.

“Hey Harry,” I said, turning to look at him.

“What’s this?” he asked, grabbing my cheek that is now bruised from last night.

“I was reading and I accidently dropped the book on my face,” I quickly lie.

“That’s a pretty big bruise for a book,” he said, still holding my face.

“It was a big book,” I say, swatting his hand away.

“This wasn’t your-“ but he doesn’t get to finish his sentence, because the teacher interrupts him.

“Ok class, stop talking, it’s time to start the lesson.”

I get some of the cafeteria food, and sit down with Harry. It’s the same thing as always, he talks and eats, and I poke at my little pile of rice until I can get him to eat it for me. I do take a few little bites though, so that my stomach won’t grumble and he might think that I have an eating disorder or something.

“So, tell me, what book are you reading this week?” Harry asks me as he sits across from me at the two-person table.

“Les Miserables,” I say, lying once again because I can’t think of another big book. {A.N. if you guys haven’t seen this movie, then you have to, or else this book might not make very much sense, and you’ll love it anyways ;)}

“Ah, studying up for the play?” he asks, referring to the upcoming spring play in our theater class.

“Who are you trying out for?”

“Cool, I hope you get the part.”

“Are you going to try out?”

“Yeah, I’m gonna try out for Marius.”

Perfect. The reason that I’m trying out as Eponine is because I relate to her so well. Because I had this little fantasy that my crush, Shawn, would be Marius. Just because it’s the same as Eponine and Marius as it is with Shawn and I.

A girl walks up to our table, and turns to Harry.

“Uhm, hey Harry, I was just wondering… If you have plans tomorrow night, maybe?” she asked.

“Uh, sorry, but I already made plans with Alex,” he said, looking at me with a glint of hope in his eyes.

“Oh, yeah, well, see you later,” she said and turned to go, but stopped to glare at me for about three seconds before running off to the popular table.

“Why did you just reject her? We don’t have plans,” I said as soon as she was out of earshot.

“Let’s just say that I like someone else, and I want to see this library that you’ve been talking about,” Harry replies, and continues eating his lunch.

“I thought you hated books,” I say, poking at my food once again.

“I do not, I just don’t read all the time, like you do,” he laughed.

“Fine, I’ll show you the library tomorrow,” I say, and we finish eating.

“Alexis Mobley,” the drama teacher said, signaling for me to come on stage.

“I will be trying out for the part of Eponine,” I say as I stand center stage.

“Alright, I’m guessing you know that you are singing ‘On My Own’ start whenever you want,” she says.

I wait a second, and then begin to sing.

On my own

Pretending he’s beside me

All alone

I walk with him till morning

Without him

I feel his arms around me

And when I’ve lost my way I close my eyes

And he has found me

In the rain the pavement shines like silver

All the lights are misty in the river

In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight

And all I see is him and me forever and forever

And I know it’s only in my mind,

That I’m talking to myself and not to him

And although I know that he is blind

Still I say, there’s a way for us

I love him

But when the night is over

He is gone

The river’s just a river

Without him

The world around me changes

The trees are bare and everywhere

The streets are full of strangers

I love him

But everyday I’m learning

All my life I’ve only been pretending

Without me

His world will go on turning

A world that’s full of happiness

That I have never known

I love him

I love him

I love him

But only on my own

“Thank you Ms. Mobley. Let me say, you have a very good chance at this,” the drama teacher says, and I smile and walk off the stage as he calls another name.

“Wow! I didn’t know you could sing like that!” Harry says.

“Well, I’ve been practicing, unlike you, where singing comes naturally,” I say, taking a seat next to him. Harry already tried out, singing ‘Empty Chairs at Empty Tables.’

Finally, the last person came up, and I saw that it was Shawn who was trying out.

“I’m trying out for Marius, and I will be singing ‘Empty Chairs at Empty Tables,’” Shawn says. Oh my gosh Shawn is trying out for the part oh my god he’s gonna be Marius oh my god it’s a dream come true oh my god I’m freaking out oh my god.

“He would be perfect for this part if you get Eponine, wouldn’t he?” Harry said, smirking at me.

“How do you know that?” I asked, looking at Harry.

“Maybe the: ‘Oh my gosh Shawn is trying out for the part oh my god’ thing that you just said” Harry whispers, trying to listen to Shawn’s perfect voice.

“Did I say that out loud?”

Shawn finished his song, and walked off the stage. The Drama teacher walked up, and said: “Ok, so you guys might not get the part you tried out for, the only reason for that is because your voice would be better for that certain part. The roles will be listed in the hallway outside at the beginning of the day tomorrow. Class dismissed.”

~skip to the end of the day~

I came home to find that my uncle had decided not to go to the bar today. Maybe he’s not drunk today! I shouldn’t get my hopes up. When I came inside, I stood on the other side of the kitchen as usual.

“Oh, Alexis you’re home! I need you to get a job, because the house still needs one more payment before it will be paid off,” he says, oddly in a good mood.

“Yeah ok,” I replied, “and I was wondering if I could have a sleepover with my friend... Jennifer for the weekend. We have a big project due on Monday, and it’ll take forever to do,” I lie, trying to get something out of his soberness.

“Yeah sure, as long as it’s for a project,” he replies.

“Cool, I’ll leave a note tomorrow, just in case you forget,” I say, then go up to my room.

And for the first time in months, I slept soundly.
