Just whatever rants come to mind. This seems to be a great way to vent.

32. Romance

Fanfiction is mislabelled and put into every other genre that there is, non-fiction, paranormal and supernatural, mystery, horror (even it's not supposed to be there, sometimes it's unintentionally scary), journalism.... but the genre most badly affected has to be romance.

I mean, there's the orange button that says 'show fanfic', but even when that isn't fan-fiction, about half of the books on the front page happen to be fanfictions. No, I'm not one of those girls that goes around reading books by Nora Roberts with her head in the clouds and dreaming of a non-bloodsucking Edward Cullen.

No, I'm a realist. And as a realist, I have to accept that there are some good romance books out there, some beautiful pieces that deserve attention. Let's face it, if you're a reader (preferably a girl), you've read at least one book where the romance is real, there are sweet-and-sour simply superb snarky conversations. Like Koyal Dark, Mango Sweet, or stuff by Meg Cabot (think the Mediator series). And those books are just perfect for a dismal day.

Sometimes fantasy is too serious, sci-fi too intense, action too exhausting, and all you want to do is curl up in your bed with your iPad/phone/laptop and read a romance that doesn't make you swoon much, but makes you laugh. All those kind of romances are being smothered by fanfictions in the romance genre. I'm tired of not being able to find a good romance. Even the few on there that are genuine don't seem to be of my taste. It seems that the general public now thinks that romance has to be complete puppy love and sappy stories. Romance can be *funny*, romance can be action, romance can even be intertwined with a murder mystery.

So, if anyone's reading this, I want to encourage you guys to write a romance. It doesn't have to be a full-length novel, just a short story (like a one-shot in a manga) will do. Just make it different, it can be sweet, it can be tragic, but please nothing with a curly-haired male protagonist. I've been scarred enough as it is.
