6. Chapter 6

He continued to pull her through the crowd and out the front door once again. Avery did not let go because she wasn’t sure if she would get out of the crowd without him. People seemed to just move with his presence.

Once they reached the front door Avery slipped her hand out of his.

“Thanks,” she muffled.

“Liam remember?” he smirked.

“Yeah,” she rolled her eyes.

Avery pushed the door open, releasing a gust of cool wind toward her. She stepped out into the chilly night regretting not taking a jacket along with her. The footsteps behind her were pretty audible so she knew he wanted her to know he was there.

“I didn’t need your help you know?” she chuckled. “What are you even doing a college frat party?”

“My friend, Harry, knows someone here. They asked him to ask the rest of us to show up and we did. Why are you here?”

“I go to college with these people,” Avery sighed pointing back to the house. “I am just going to head back to my dorm, this was a very stupid idea. Which by the way can I tell you that you are the reason that I made this stupid decision?”

“Me?” Liam asked, wanting to laugh but choosing not to. “How did I make you attend the same party that I would be attending?”

“Because you had to be weird back at Brew You and everything,” Avery ran her fingers through her hair. “Ugh, you are so annoying.”

Avery stomped over to the bench located close to the frat house. She sat down throwing her hands over her face, muttering to herself as Liam came and sat beside her.

“Well I would like to apologize,” he nudged her with his elbow. “But, I would just like to inform you this looks a bit like stalking.”

Avery moved her hands and stared at him like he was crazy.

“First, you act like you don’t know who we are. And of course I should have known you were just playing it off. Second, you reject me,” Liam was smiling while staring directly ahead, avoiding eye contact. “And now you happen to be at the same party as I am. So I do believe you need to come clean now. Avery right?”

“Yes,” Avery chuckled. “Please pretend you don’t know my name now.”

Liam looked over at her before they both began to laugh at themselves. The whole situation did seem a little crazy, and maybe too farfetched for reality but the truth was it was really happening.

“I’m joking by the way,” Liam smiled after catching his breath from the laughter.

Avery shook her head at him, wondering why he was even paying attention to her and of course her mouth overrode her brain and stole the words.

“Why are you out here with me when you could be in there with some fangirl?” she bit her lip after asking because it came out a little harsher than intended.

Liam shifted slightly which made Avery feel kind of bad for the harshness that was in her voice. She noted that Liam bit his lip before answering.

“I guess I would rather have a girl who is a little mean that one who is going to scream in my face,” Liam said finally looking over at her.

Avery just pondered on his statement for a moment as the front door to the frat house opened and people came running out. There were about twenty different voices screaming and nothing was really all that audible. Avery smiled remembering why she quit coming to these parties.

“Avery?” she heard a male voice call from the mixture of voices. “Avery? What are you doing?”

It was Evan’s voice and all Avery could do was mumble shit under her breath. Despite everything Evan had just told her in the car she knew that he had started drinking at the party. It was obvious because she had upset him in the car. Liam turned to see Evan approaching to them.

“Avery,” he wobbled a bit as the partygoers in the background watched the current event happen in the front yard. “Who is this? Is this your boyfriend?” his speech wasn’t slurred but Avery could smell the liquor on his breath.

“I’m Liam,” he looked toward Avery for some hint to what was going on but she just stared, blank faced, forward. Liam stood up and attempted to shake Evan’s hand. “Nice to meet you. I just met Avery tonight.”
