20. Chapter 19 ~ Liam

Chapter 19 ~ Liam

After the lads and I watched Ed perform for Amabel and Parker, Amabel basically dragged Parker somewhere. When I asked where they were going, Amabel told us that it was “girl time.” As the door was being slammed closed, I saw Parker cringe. That made me laugh since Parker obviously wasn’t up for it.

She was different. No girl I had met didn’t want to gossip, or spend all their free time with their friend. Parker didn’t let anyone see into her past, I wanted more than anything to see what was making her so reserved. I wanted to help her; that was what I do. I help people. I care about others and I don’t like it when I see them in any kind of pain; not when there’s something I can do about it. And I just need Parker to see that she doesn’t have to be hurting anymore. I can help her, but only if she would let me in.

“That was a great idea.” Niall said, sitting down on my left.

“Yeah, we know who’s getting lucky tonight!” Louis sing-songed. Niall laughed and Harry blushed and took a seat on the floor in front of Zayn.

“Shut up,” the curly-haired boy snapped, making the lads laugh even harder. “I’m just surprised Parker didn’t know who Ed was.”

“Me too,” Zayn agreed. “He’s quite popular.”

“Parker was quite rude, though.” Louis added and I felt myself frown.

“She isn’t used to this.” I snapped, and the lads turned to look at me with socked expressions on their faces.

“Used to what?” Niall asked.

“This.” I motioned to all of us. “She didn’t have many friends growing up, okay? We can relate in that sense. Her past is a great one so I don’t think any of us are in a place to judge her.”

Silence, and then Louis said, “Woah, mate. You sure do fancy this girl.”

I rolled my eyes and Harry tried to suppress a laugh. “I don’t fancy her.” I was getting really tired of repeating myself.

"Then why did you defend her like that? You seem to care about her a lot.” Zayn pointed out. To be honest, I really have no idea why I jumped to her aid like that. I guess I was just desperate to keep her protected. From what I’m not sure but all I know is that what happened to her was so bad that she doesn’t deserve to get hurt in any way.

I can see it in her eyes. The way she puts up her walls so no one can she why she is hurting. I’ve never known anyone like that before. I’ve been told it was because they didn’t want to get hurt again, but Parker needs to understand that I would never hurt her, not on purpose. There are people in this world that are good, and I just wish that she would see that.

“Liam?” Louis asked, bringing me back.

“Yeah?” I asked, and the Doncaster boy raised an eyebrow. “Sorry. I was just thinking. Parker is…” I tried to find the right word.

“A loner?” Zayn finished for me.

My eyebrows came together. “No, she isn’t a loner. She is…guarded. I want to be there for her but she won’t talk to me.”

“But you hardly know her?” Niall said.

“I know,” I sighed, “I’ve asked her many times why she keeps to herself but she always tells me that it’s none of my business.”

“It’s not, though.” Harry brought up.

I groaned. The lads were not helping me here and I was getting a little irritated. “But we live together! She is sleeping in my apartment, and I think she should tell me what’s got her so bothered. I don’t want some stranger staying in my apartment. I want to know her; I need to know her.”

"And she hasn’t given you anything?” The black-haired lad asked.

"Nope,” I answered.

“At least she talks to me.” Harry mumbled to himself.

“What?” I questioned, and his head snapped up.

“Nothing.” He dismissed, but I wanted to know what Parker said to him.

"No, you said something. What did Parker say to you, Harry?” I was standing at this point, and Harry’s green eyes were locked with my brown ones.

“She didn’t tell me anything, exactly. She just said her parents were awful people for doing it and she had to get away. And she kept mentioning her brother, but it didn’t make a whole lot of sense.” Harry let out.

My eyes were wide. Why did she tell Harry this? I was the one who offered to be there for her, but she talked to Harry instead! Something boiled up inside me, and I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. I wasn’t jealous, if that’s what you’re thinking.

No, not jealousy. Frustration, I guess. Why not me? Why didn’t she come to me? After all the times I opened up to her and told her that she can tell me—that she can trust me—she went to someone else. Was it me, or just her?

I don’t know how long I stood there, but I faintly heard the lads calling my name. There was only one thing in my mind at that moment: I had to find her. I had to find Parker.

So that’s what I do. I grab my jacket and run out the door, ignoring the protests and calls behind me. The lads were the last thing on my mind. Parker had me going insane trying to figure out what happened in her past, I don’t think I could take it any longer. I was going to find her and I would find out what happened.

But most importantly, I was going to help her.
