Just Friends

"So," I smiled as I sat at the cafeteria table, in front of the new kid, Niall. I set my tray of food on the table. "have you made any friends yet?" He nodded. "That's good." I said picking up my apple and taking a bite out of it.
"What's his name?" I continued the conversation.
"He's coming to eat with us." He said, "You'll see."
I frowned confused, okay...
"Oh! There he is!" Niall said gesturing to a guy coming towards us. I turned around but as soon as I saw who it was I flashed my head back towards Niall.
"You're kidding me right?" I one hand on my forehead staring at the table. "Niall, you can't be friends with him he's-"
I was cut off by the guy sitting beside me on the bench of the table. "trouble." I finished under my breath as he and Niall did some kind of handshake.
"Hey there Brooke, haven't seen you in awhile." He winked at me.
"Hello Zayn..." I said coldly as I inched away from him on the bench.

9. (7) We… Have To Act Like A… Couple

Instantly, guilt filled every inch of my body. I can’t believe I just raged on this poor guy, and here he is giving me a flower, proud of our friendship.

“Aw, Ni..” I said approaching him. I stuck out my bottom lip. “I’m sorry.” I said giving him a hug. It took him a few seconds but I felt his arms wrap around me and his face nuzzle my neck. After a moment I pulled away and he handed me the daisy. I smiled and leaned in to kiss his cheek. He blushed. (Aww)

I brought the flower to my nose and smelled it. We both burst out laughing and walked down to his car.

Once we arrived at my house I threw myself on my bed, glad the week was finally over. Niall, being his cute timid self, bent down and sat crisscrossed on my carpet. I laughed and patted on the bed, indicating he could come. He laughed, embarrassed and came to join me.

“So Niall,” I began.

“Yeah Brooke?”

“I never really told you why you’re coming to this wedding…”

He chuckled. “Yeah, and I don’t even know who’s wedding I’m going to on top of it.”

I laughed, shaking my head. “Well, you see, my parents are really… like… snobby.” I said and he chuckled.

“They expect me to be a perfect daughter and have perfect grades, and dress perfectly and ugh! They’re so annoying!”

He laughed softly and put a comforting hand on my shoulder. “Yeah so they kinda told the rest of the family and their friends that I had a boyfriend…” I carried on.

“Oh I see where you’re going with this.” He assured me.

I nodded, embarrassed of the situation.

“You want me to get motorcycle guy to come with you.” He joked.

“NIALL!” I groaned pushing him over by his shoulder. “Stop it. Seriously.” I warned. But after a few seconds of staring at each other, we burst out laughing.

He continued laughing when I continued explaining, “Yeah so we have to act like a couple.” I finished, nearly under my breath.
