17. Chapter 17

As Pepper stepped out, we followed her. Pepper led the way down and I deblued. We turned a corner to find a window and saw the desert stretched out before us. I stop to look at it.

"The only way we can out of here alive is by flying," I said.

Red lights started to flash, sirens blared. "The prisoners have escaped!" was broadcasted over the PDA system.

"We need to hide," Rouge yelled over the noise.

"I have an idea," Kitty yelled. "Find a worker's room!"

We checked all the rooms we came across, finding a room on the third try.

We rushed in and shut the door.

"Where's the closet," Kitty asked.

"Here," I yelled.

"Put these on," Kitty said handing us the uniforms.

"Kurt, you'll have to stay out of sight," Rouge said.

While we were all getting dressed I tried to contact someone outside of the compound that would help us.

"Something's messing with my magic," I said aloud.

"What do you mean," Kurt asked.

"I can sort of talk to people with my mind," I said. "Only something else is blocking it. I need to find out what."

"And do what, contact you fiancé to come and kill us all," rouge asked.

"No, to contact my sister and tell her where we are," I said.

"Is she a frost giant, too," Pepper asked.

"Yes," Jane answered for me seeing my face.

"Come here," I said, voice like a bell. I was talking to a goon who I heard running past.

He came in with a black look. Kitty was about to kick him when she saw that he just stood there.

"What do you know about frost giant magic," I asked him, voice still bell like. "Tell me the whole truth."

"They can make ice and cannot survive this desert for more than two days," he said, face still blank.

"How do you know this," I asked.

"Hydra has an inside man that works for Loki. They're identity is unknown to all."

"What is stopping me from contact with the outside," I asked him.

He tried to resist. "Tell me," I said putting on more magic.

"Something the insider gave us. They are a set of five glowing golden stones. One in each corner, North, South, East and West and the last in the center of the facility. To break down the shield you have to break one of the stones," he said, all resistance gone. Suddenly he dropped, blood dripping from his nose.

I jumped back and squeaked. That had never happened before.

"You over did it a bit," Jane said.

"I was barely trying," I whispered.

"Then your powers grew," she said.

Great, just what I needed.

"What are you waiting for? We need to get going now," I yelled at Fury.

"What do you want us to do, scour the entire desert," Fury asked.

"YES," Alice and I screamed.

"WHY CAN'T THEY DO THIS," I shouted in my head. I was furious and worse, Clint wasn't backing me up. Of course, he wasn't backing Fury up either.

"I heard that," Loki told me with some surprise.

"WHAT," I screamed in my head again.

"I heard you, but just barely," Loki told me.

It's at that point that Peter spoke. "We could go there, just to be closer in case we find the hide out," he told Fury.

"Finally, someone speaking sense," Alice cried.

"I agree with Peter," Clint said. I glared at him for not taking my side sooner.

"Well, get to it," I yelled.

"Set course to the Sahara Desert," Fury said into an intercom. The helicarrier, where we were currently talking, took off and shook slightly.

"Finally," I yell. Clint gave me the calm-down look. Yeah, like that was going to happen with my sister in the hands of wack jobs who want to use her as a weapon.

"Gather supplies, you'll need them," Loki told me. "Keep me informed," he said and left.

I went to my room and started to gather my weapons from my little pack that was bigger on the inside. I decided to use the shuriken and daggers, they were my specialty.

I disconnected the link between Tammy and myself. I didn't like talking more than I had to like that with her, it made me feel as if I were cheating on Luna. It made no sense to me either, that's just how I felt.

I walked off to the other side of my room. I was angry and all the anger was coming out at once, I punched the wall, breaking it. The ice instantly regrew and the wall was whole once again.

If I ever got near the mortals that had touched my Luna, and if they hurt her in any way, I was going to kill them all after a long slow torture. My eyes blazed with fury as I thought about how Luna had needed my help and I hadn't been there for her. Right there I swore that if she ever went back to Earth again, I would be one step behind her the whole way.

I tried again to contact Luna, searching for her unique mind stamp. Again, I the search came up empty. Frustrated I went to our place as I thought of it, the little room where we both went to think.

I sat there for almost an hour, mind blank. After a while I fell asleep, wishing Luna was here with me.

I needed to find the stones. I needed to destroy one, but more than anything else at the moment, I needed to sleep. We were in an air duct which was surprisingly roomy. Everyone was tired but I had to stay up, there needed to be a watch, even if no one else knew.

With it silent I tried again to reach out to find Loki. Nothing. I was wishing that I had never left Jotunheim.

At nearly midnight, I woke up Jane.

"What," she asked drowsily.

"I need to sleep, someone has to be on watch detail," I said yawning.

"I'll do it," Kurt said. "Go to sleep."

I was about to ask him about his sleep, but when I closed my eyes, they stayed closed. I had a peaceful and dreamless sleep. I woke up at around six, much to early and we started to look around.
