25. Chapter 22

It was an unusually quiet night. Peyton and Justin were walking aimlessly around town while Ryan stayed in the car. Before they left, Ryan said that he'd try to get a hold of Chaz, since nobody's seen him for two days now. And if he found Chaz, Ryan would call Christian to see if they could stay with him again for a while.

Eventually the two of them found a park and they both sat on the swings. There was an understanding silence between them for a while, before Justin got a call from Ryan.

"I found Chaz," Ryan said. "And we can stay with Christian. Do you want us to come pick you guys up?"

"Yeah," Justin looked over at Peyton who was kicking her feet and looking down at the ground. "I'll text you where we are."

"Kay bye."

Justin hung up and tucked the phone into his pocket again. Peyton looked up and smiled. Justin smiled, unable to control it. Her smile was contagious.

"What's up?" She asked.

"Just thinking." Justin answered. Peyton raised an eyebrow and giggled.

"Thinking about what?"

"Stuff like what?"

Justin looked over at her again. "Did you know that you're really annoying?"

Peyton crossed her arms. "Well if you think I'm so annoying then I guess I'll just leave." She got up from the swing and started to walk away slowly. She looked over her shoulder and Justin could see that she was smiling. He tried to act like he didn't care that she was walking away, and eventually she just turned around and crossed her arms again.

"Do you even care if I leave?"

"No," Justin lied. "But if you're leaving..." He reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring. It was hidden by his hand so Peyton couldn't see it right away. "I want you to have this."

He tossed her the ring and she caught it. When she opened her hands, her eyes grew wide. A moment later her hands were shaking.

"Justin, what is this?"

Justin shrugged. "A ring."

"What kind of ring?"

"A wedding ring."

Justin chuckled and got up from the swing. He walked over to Peyton and carefully slid the ring onto her finger. Her hands were still shaking when he took them and placed them on either side of his face. Peyton looked frightened, but he didn't care.

"Isn't it obvious? I want you to marry me."

Peyton opened her mouth slightly, but stayed silent.

"I don't want to be separated by anything. Nothing's going to separate us ever again, if you just say-"

"Justin," Peyton looked up at him. "I'm scared."

Peyton nodded. Justin dropped her hands from where he was holding them so he could place his own hands on either side of her face. He slowly placed his lips on hers and she tilted her head up saying she wanted him to continue, but he pulled away.

"Don't be scared, baby." He whispered.

Peyton smiled. "Don't call me that."

This caused Justin to smile as well. "Then can I call you my fiance? And then can I call you my wife?"

There was a long pause. And then, "Yes. You can."

"Yes, I'll marry you."

"You will?"

"Of course, you idiot." Peyton raised herself up on her tiptoes so she could place her lips onto his. They kissed, and for a moment nothing else mattered. That moment was soon broken by someone clearing their throat.

Justin pulled Peyton closer to him, just in case that someone might hurt them, but it was only Ryan and Chaz. And Chaz looked completely wasted.

"THAT...was the...cutest...thing...that...Chaz has...ever...seen." Chaz mumbled as Ryan struggled to keep him standing. Peyton started laughing and Justin couldn't help but smile. Ryan rolled his eyes.

"Don't mind him, he's drunk." Ryan said.

Peyton shook her head and stuck her hand out. "Look at my ring!"

Ryan smiled. "I know, I was there when Justin bought it. Now let's head to the airport, our flight to Atlanta leaves soon."

Peyton interlaced her fingers with Justin's, causing him to jump. He looked down at her and she looked up at him with a smile. They walked hand in hand to the car--occasionally letting go to help keep Chaz up--and Justin had to admit that with all of the Prezlocki drama gone, he couldn't wait for the future. Not that the future was going to be drama free, or anything like that. He just hoped that things would be a little bit better than what they were before.
