14. Chapter 12

As Ryan sat in the chair, with his arms bound behind him, he thought that he'd done a pretty good job with Max. He knew for a fact that he hadn't killed him--but he'd left a significant amount of blood in the spot where he'd stabbed him, and he'd sworn that he was wearing his watch when he'd done so.

He remembered the strong arms pulling him off of Max, and bringing him to this building. But he didn't remember being tied up to this chair, so he figured that he'd passed out somewhere along the way.

The guy who had pulled him off of Max was standing in front of him. Ryan was right--he looked strong. He was tall, with sandy-brown hair and green eyes. His jawline was neatly defined, as were his muscles underneath his shirt. Ryan thought that Peyton might of had a heart attack if she saw a guy so good looking, that even Ryan thought he was good looking.

"So," Ryan said, breaking the silence between him and the guy in front of him. "Why am I here?"

The guy stared at him. "Boss wants to talk to you."

"And who is this 'Boss' you speak of?"

"You'll see." The guy looked off toward a dark hallway. "He's coming in about five minutes."

"Why can't he come now?"

"Shut up."

Ryan huffed, leaned back in his uncomfortable chair, and waited. After a significant amount of time, the Boss decided to show up--and Ryan waited for more than five minutes for that to happen.

The Boss stayed in the shadows, so Ryan couldn't make out who it was--but he recognized their voice.

"So nice to see you, Ryan." Boss said. "What brings you here?"

"You do. I've been told several times that you want information out of me, so have at it. I have all the time in the world because I lost my watch, so I suggest you start now."

The Boss laughed. "I honestly thought that Justin was the most witty of the group. I've been proven wrong."

Ryan raised an eyebrow--and something in his head clicked. It was like an explosion, and he had to close his eyes to stop the pain. When he opened them again, he said: "When you talk like that you sound like an idiot."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me," Ryan said. "You sound like an idiot, Dakota."

Dakota chuckled and stepped out of the shadows. He grinned down at Ryan, hatred burning in his eyes. "I always knew you were the smartest one, however."

"Did you know that you have a girl's name?" Ryan blurted.

Dakota looked genuinely taken aback. "I do not."

"Yes you do."

"No I don't."

"Dakota is a girl's name, I'm almost positive." Ryan smirked. Dakota raised an eyebrow, and then seemed to realize what Ryan was trying to do.

"Stop doing that," Dakota spat. "Where's Somers, Barillas, and most importantly--where's Bieber?"

Ryan shrugged. "I don't know. That kid, Max, took me away from Justin and Chaz. I don't know where Peyton is either." He licked his lips. "I thought Peyton killed you."

"Well," Dakota inched closer to Ryan, his hands behind his back. "Here's what I have to say about that. For one, I'm not dead. And two--did anybody actually check to see if I was dead?"

Dakota laughed. "See, that's why people don't stay dead around here. Nobody even checks to see if they're actually dead. Peyton missed, by the way."

"What?" Ryan asked. "I saw her hit you with that bullet."

"Actually, she didn't. I just thought that I'd fake it at the moment. Knowing you guys, you'd be glad if I was dead. So I acted like I was."

"Okay then..." Ryan struggled to get out of the rope that tied his hands. "What do you want from us?"

"I'm assuming that you've spent the money."

"No, but we sure as hell aren't giving it to you."

Dakota bent his head so he was eye-level with Ryan now. He smirked. "Then I guess I'll have to settle with killing all of you."

Ryan raised an eyebrow, and then brought his knee up and kneed Dakota in his sensitive spot. He quickly discarded the rope that had bound his hands on the ground and brought his hands behind him. He grabbed the top rim of the chair he was sitting on, swung it over his head, and hit Dakota's helper guy with it. Then, he proceeded to run out of the building as fast as could.

He ran down the block and around the corner of a building--only to run into Max. He was smirking at him as he caught hold of his arms and whirled him around. Max handcuffed Ryan's wrists together and he groaned loudly as Dakota came around the corner.

Dakota stalked angrily up to Ryan and grabbed hold of his face with one hand. He jerked it downward, and Ryan heard a snap in the back of his neck. A grueling shot of pain ran up his whole back and up to his head.

"Congratulations, Butler." Dakota hissed. "You've earned yourself the first spot on my list."

"Your list?" He managed to croak out.

Dakota nodded. "That's right. Now, how to you want to die? Knife, or gun?"

Ryan opened his mouth to answer, but somebody else spoke for him.

Dakota snapped his head around to look at whoever had called his name. Ryan tried to crane his neck, and he caught a glimpse of bright red hair with blonde tips. Samantha.

"You said you wouldn't kill him." Her voice sounded shaky, like she was trying not to cry or something. Ryan must have imagined it.

Dakota stared at her for what seemed like forever before he spoke. "Fine. But we're keeping him with us until the others come to look for him."

Samantha sighed with relief. "Thank yo-"

Dakota held up a hand. "No talking." He shoved Ryan towards her and pain shot through his whole body this time. He groaned, and Samantha caught him. "Just take him, and make sure he doesn't try to escape."

Samantha nodded and looked down at Ryan with sad eyes. "I'm sorry." She whispered as she and Max carried him away.

The only thing that Ryan remembered after that was shaking his head. Shaking his head, and wanting nothing more than to have all of this shit with the Prezlocki brothers stop. He wanted it to be over, and he didn't know if his wish would be granted, but when he woke up with Chaz towering over him, smiling--his hopes shot up like fireworks.
