Chapter 32

When I woke, I had the worst possible hangover. I squinted my eyes as I sat up, and covered my hand with my mouth. I ran to the bathroom and threw up what was left in my stomach. After rinsing my mouth with mouthwash and brushing my teeth, twice, I tried to brush through my hair. That was impossible, so I put it in a bun. I washed my face too, since I probably looked like a zombie.

Stripping out of my clothes that I slept in, I pulled on sweatpants and a tank top. After breakfast, I was going to shower. And then the memories of last night came rushing back, and how Harry rejected me. It was still really fuzzy, but I remember a little part of it. I didn't want to go downstairs anymore, but my stomach was growling, and I needed something to help my hangover, so I groaned and went to the kitchen.

Everyone was there. The people that hadn't drunk -Liam, Danielle, Eleanor and Harry- were happily chatting over tea. Zayn, Niall and Louis were moaning and groaning with mugs of coffee in front of them. They looked like they had gotten hit by a bus, and I guess I looked the same.

"Morning." I moaned and poured myself some coffee, avoiding Harry's gaze.

"Hi!" Danielle chirped.

"OW! Can you keep it down? I like inside voices!" Louis snapped.

I winced and nodded. "Hangover's a bitch." I sat down next to Zayn, who grimaced.

"You smell." He complained, and I whacked his arm.

"So do you!" I threw back, and popped an Advil in my mouth.

I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear as I heard Niall complaining about food, but not being able to keep it down. Speaking of food, I needed some. I dragged my feet over to the stove and quickly made scrambled eggs. As I was turning the flame off, I felt someone behind me. When I turned, I bumped into a tall and firm figure. Looking up, curly brown hair is the first thing I see, and then green eyes. I gulped.

"You okay?" he asked softly.

"Fine," I told him, looking at the ground, "Just have a really bad headache." I forced a smile and side-stepped him. After taking my place next to Louis at the table, I decided to engage in conversation. Turns out, Liam and Eleanor were already having one.

"I was thinking the commons...?" El suggested.

"We're going out today?" I asked. As bad as the hangover was, I tried to make the best of it.

"Yeah, we were thinking of going to the shops this afternoon." Liam informed me.

"I'm up for it!" I popped some egg into my mouth and swallowed.

Beside me, Louis held his face in his hands and groaned. "How could you possibly want to go outside? The sun is too bloody bright and people are too loud." His voice was muffled.

Eleanor patted his head and kissed his nose. "Cheer up, Lou."

"You know I'm trying."

I turned to Liam, who had Danielle's hand in his. "When are we going?"

"Is 12:30 okay for everyone?"

It was 11:45 now. "Sure." I nodded and finished my eggs in a few bites. "I'm going to shower." I jumped up and put my dishes in the sink. Harry hadn't moved from where I left him, and grabbed my wrist as soon as I turned to the stairs.

"We're talking about this later." He said quietly.

My lips formed a straight line and I nodded once, and then ran to the bathroom, where I immediately started the water. I pulled off my clothes and examined my body. Since we had arrived here, I had gotten tan. I was lucky; I tanned easily. But part of me didn't: my scar. When I got tan, the skin didn't change. It was more obvious, the white line from my jaw line to my collarbone. It wasn't big, but at first glance you would know it was there. It was really strange, to be honest. The more time I spent with Harry, the less and less I thought about it. Before I had met him, it was all I thought about. I didn't want anyone looking at me in fear they would see it and ask me. Obviously, I didn't want to tell them.

That just proves how much he changed me. It was without a doubt for the best. He had no idea how much he meant to me and how much I need him. He was like the glue that held my walls up. I owe him so much. For making me see the light, for helping me out of the dark.

After I stepped out of the shower, I squeezed my hair with the towel, extracting some of the moisture. I dressed in dark denim shorts and a black tank top. It was close to 95 degrees, so I French braided my hair to one side, like Katniss. When I was done applying little makeup, I slipped into my leather flip flops and jogged downstairs. It was 12:15.

Everyone was ready before I was. Since we weren't waiting for anyone, we took two cars to the commons. Driving one was Liam. Riding with him was Danielle, Sam, Niall and Zayn. Eleanor was the second driver, and with her were Louis, Harry and I. Lou sat in the front, leaving Harry and I in the back. It was extremely awkward, and I knew Eleanor could tell from the worried glances she gave me. I laid my head against the window and didn't talk to anyone.

I wondered if Harry was mad at me, because I was mad at him. Being rejected like that was just about the worst possible thing I could imagine. I thought Harry wanted me in that way. Yes, I was drunk, but I was sober now, so I knew that was what I indeed wanted. Being drunk just made me more "out there" I suppose.

"Are you coming?" Louis asked me.

"Hu?" I asked stupidly, and then saw we were at the shops. "Oh, yeah. Sorry." I climbed out of the car and we started walking. It was a beautiful day outside, and I was with the people I cared about the most. So I forgot about what was pulling my leg, and focused on the eight amazing people around me.

"What do you think of this one?" I asked Eleanor. I stepped out of the dressing room, and modeled the bikini for her.

"Oohhh!" She clapped her hands together and smile widely. "I love it! You look so hot!"

"Thanks," I muttered, blushing. "So are you going to get that dress? Louis is going to freak when he sees you in that."

"Yeah, I think I will! But what about Harry? You will be the death of that boy!"

My smile faded and I looked down. "Th-things got...complicated." I stuttered and stared at my toes.

"What?" her smile faded too and concern crossed her features. "What happened?"

I forced a tight smile. "It's nothing. Can we talk about this later? Somewhere else?"

"Of course." She gave my hand a squeeze.

"Thanks," I breathed a sigh of relief. "I'll go try on the blue one too. I liked that one." I stepped into the dressing room again and swapped swim suits. "Hey El? Would you might tightening this strap?"

"Sure, and since when do--"

"Hey Eleanor? Louis's looking for y- oh sorry, I just..." Harry interrupted. His mouth fell open when he saw me standing there in an electric blue bikini. "L-Louis needs you."

"Thanks." She said awkwardly, grabbed her purse, and left. Gee thanks, El.

Harry swallowed and looked me over. His tongue licked his lips, sending goose bumps over my skin. "You should get that one. It looks great."

"Thanks." I muttered and crossed my arms over my chest before jumping into the dressing room. I guess Harry waited for me, because when I came out, I almost bumped into him. He lowered his lips to my ear.

"I'm sorry, you know." His curls were tickling my forehead.

I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and massaged my temples. "I know, okay? But we are not talking about this here. Tonight I promise."

"Okay." He nodded and then left. "We'll be eating when you join us." He pressed his lips to my cheek before leaving.

I paid for my swim suit and then left the store. The commons were an outside mall, and as soon as I stepped out in the sun, I saw my friends over by Arby's. I took a place between Danielle and Zayn and took some of the fries from Liam's plate. While we ate, we just chatted lightly, just making small talk. A few fans passed by, and the boys dropped what they were doing and said hello.

It was an amazing sight to see. How much these girls looked up to and adored the boys was truly amazing. Sometimes I wondered what they did in their free time. Sam told me about something called fan fiction. Apparently, it was fictional stories fans wrote about celebrities, and One Direction fan fiction was extremely popular. I didn't really know what to think of that. It seemed kind of strange that people write stories about my friends -and boyfriend- and people actually enjoy it.

Niall was complaining that it was too hot, so we drove home. As soon as we walked in the door, Niall and Louis ran upstairs and came back down in about 2 minutes in swim trunks.

"Swimming!" they screamed and then ran to the beach, where they cannonballed into the water. I chuckled and decided to join them, so I changed into my new bikini.

It was 2:45, so it was still light out. After getting to my room, I closed and locked the door. When I came out, I nearly bumped into Harry....again.

"Sorry," I muttered and side-stepped him, but he grabbed my waist and pulled me inside my room again. "Harry!"

"How mad are you at me?" he ignored my protest and stood in front of me, arms crossed over his bare chest. His green eyes stared into my blue ones and his eyebrows tried to touch.

"Very." I snapped and crossed my arms, too.

"Why? I did you a favor!" He threw his arms up.

"What? You humiliated me! You rejected me, Harry! What kind of boyfriend does that?"

"You were drunk, Amabel! I wasn't going to take advantage of you!"

"Ugh! Harry, if you don't want to, just tell me!"

"How can you- wait what?" he stared at me with wide eyes. "You think I don't want to?" he stepped closer and wrapped his arms around me, kissing my hair.

"I know you don't. Why else would you push me away like you did?" I mumbled into his chest.

He chuckled. "I want to. Babe, I want to. Just not like that. I want it to be special. It needs to be special."

I pulled away and held him at an arm's length away. "You-You want to? With me?"

I was shocked. I didn't think he wanted me in that way. At the same time, I was so happy that it was true.

I was such an idiot. "I'm sorry, Harry. I overreacted." I ran my hands through my hair. This was so embarrassing.

"No, I'm sorry. I should have explained myself. I'm so sorry for making you feel so bad."

"I love you so much." I told him, and wrapped my arms around his waist.

"I love you more." He chuckled, and I felt his chest vibrate.

I was so relieved that I pressed my lips to his. He pulled away, his dimples showing, and then grabbed my hand. We met everyone down by the water, where Niall and Zayn were laughing at something Louis had said. Sam, El and Danielle were whispering about something that I assumed had to do with the boys.

Eleanor smiled at me when she saw Harry and I holding hands. She knew that things got a little bumpy, and I still had to tell her what happened. I gave her a small nod telling her everything was okay now.

Harry and I were alright.
