Use Somebody

Bridgett Sailor- or Sailor as she now goes by- was in a car accident with her sister Mandy. While B survives, Mandy is killed. Music and Mandy's favorite song- Use Somebody- become Sailor's only link to her. For a weeks she thinks the only one she needs is Mandy, until she finds someone she didn't know she was looking for.

4. Use Somebody

Burying Mandy was even harder then going to the funeral. It meant she was actually gone. Mandy was no longer alive. She was just a name you heard walking down to streets, saw on the news, or read in the papers. And it really bugged me.

The car ride back home was quite. The silence was filled by the occasional sniffle. Use Somebody came on the radio, but instead of hearing the Kings of Leon, I heard Mandy. At first I thought I was imagining it but it sounded way too real.

"And that was Mandy Sailor singing Use Somebody by the Kings of Leon. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Sailor family, may Mandy rest in peace. Up next we have another tribute to Mandy. The song is an old one, called Mandy by the Jonas Brothers." See. She's everywhere. And now radios were announcing it. I can't exactly say what I felt, hearing her voice. It was a mix of fear, comfort, sadness, confusion, happiness, and eeriness.

"Do you want me to turn it off?"

"No, it's ok. I don't mind." I rested my head on the window and closed my eyes. Hearing the song I thought of Mandy when she first found out it came out. She was about 10 or 11, jumping around and singing at the top of her lungs. "MANDY ALWAYS LAUGHS WHEN I ACT STUUUPPIDDD!" thinking of this, I let out a chuckle.

When we got home, I walked straight to her room. Her door has been shut since the night of the accident, and no one has been in there. I put my hand on the handle then sighed and took it off. I went to my own room and got changed, hanging up my dress in the back of my closet and putting my shoes away. I unpinned my hair and threw it up in a bun. I washed my face then grabbed my guitar and started playing Mandy. There was a knock at my door that interrupted my playing.

"B, there's someone here to see you. Do you want me to send him up? He says he met you at the church." Trey. Trey was at my door and wanted to see me. Part of me was excited but the other part was still too upset to see anyone.

"Umm yeah send him up." A few seconds later my door opened and trey appeared.

"Sup Sailor," he nodded. I just nodded back and went back to my guitar. "So you sing, play the piano, and play the guitar? Dang girl."

"Yeah, Mandy really influenced my passion for music. She actually taught me everything I know."

"How old was she?"

"18. She would have graduated in 2 weeks. I'm turning 17 next month and ill be a senior next year."

"Wow so you were really close."

"Yeah, we were. What about you and your brother?"

"Derek was in college, he was 19 turning 20. I'm 17 turning 18."

"So about the same." We stayed silent for a moment. He signaled for my guitar and I handed it. He began strumming and without realizing, I began singing along. "You know that I could use somebody, someone like you and all you know and how you speak." For the first time in a week, I smiled. I found someone who I could relate to. He reminded me of Mandy, but it was good. I needed that.

I needed him.
