9. Chapter 9

 'Lillian Fertina, when your'e ready.'

I cautiously stuck my  pole in the air, then charged at the jump.

I planted my pole right.

I took off perfectly.

When I was in the air it all went wrong!

I came plumeting down to earth with a sharp gust of air.

Everyone gasped, then..

Shakily and unsteadily, I lifted my head from the ground, pushing myself upwards with my bruised hands.

Needless to say, I'd missed the jump, and perhaps the break from my life's bad luck.

I'd failed.

I'd lost.

Or had I?

That was merely my first jump, I still had another two till I was out of the competition!

I rose to my feet, no longer caring about the muted whispers or my leg which was badly bleeding.

This was it, I had another chance.

Nothing was going to stop me.

I would give it my absolute all.
