The Hotline

"Do you think anyone would miss me?" A deep, raspy voice comes on the line, before I even say my name."Do you think anyone would care? If I pull the trigger of this gun, who would miss me?" I am startled by the sound of a gun being loaded. I am about to respond, when suddenly I hear a shot go off.

20. Chapter Twenty

I know this is short but I wanted to update for those who commented last night. They were very sweet and I thought this would be nice. Please check out my other fanfics, it would mean alot. Also I got a couple messages to start posting what music I listen to whilst writing, so let me know if that would be cool. Thanks :)x

“I’m just saying Maddy. Maybe you would be good at it.” Harry says while slipping on his boots.

“Psychology major? I don’t know.” I say.

“C’mon that way you could open up a real place, where people could come in and talk to you.”

Harry and I ended up sleeping at the office and waking up pretty late. It was now noon and Harry had brought up the idea of me studying something different at school.

“Maybe, but right now all I want to think about is food.” I giggle as he nods his head.

“What do you want?” I ask.

“Can you cook?” He asks as we lock up the front and walk out the back door, where the car is parked.

“Of course.” I smile as we both get into his car.

He begins to drive, and suddenly everything from last starts rushing back. What am I going to do?

“Harry can I have my phone, I threw it into your jacket pocket last night.”

“Yeah, hold on.” He says whilst searching his pockets and handing me my mobile.

“Who are you calling?”

“My dad.” I say my voice in monotone.

“Oh.” Harry says quietly.

The line rings for a couple of seconds before my father answers his phone.

“Hello?” His voice is scratchy and off.

“Are you drunk?” I say not hiding my disgust.

“Maddy?” He asks.

“Where in the hell have you been dad, did you know your daughter was at a pub last night by herself!?” I yell and Harry shifts uncomfortably in his seat.

“Please don’t scream, my head is killing me.”

“Oh my- you are drunk!” I yell even louder.

“I’m taking Lexi from you, I just want you to know that!” I scream and hang up.

“Where is he?” Harry asks as I drop my phone into my lap and put my head into my hands.

“I don’t know, but I’m sure he’s drunk.” I say quietly.

“Do you want me to go get Lexi?”

“Would you mind terribly?”

“Of course.”

We arrive at my house, and I see that the lights are on.

“I’m gonna go get her.” I say opening the door. Harry nods and stays put.

I make my way to the front door and unlock it with my own key. Inside the house looks normal, and I hear noise coming from the kitchen.

“You here to tell me off again?’ She says sitting at the breakfast bar, eating what looks to be cereal.

“No, I’m here to get you out of here.” I say quietly, taking in the messy state the kitchen is in. Plates and trash scattered all around.

“To where?” She asks.

“I was thinking you could stay with me at the office, it’s almost like a tiny house. I just don’t think it’s a good idea for you stay with dad right now.”

Lexi stays quiet for a few moments and I think she’s going to tell me to leave.

“He hasn’t been home in three days.”

“What?!” I yell.

“When do you think we can leave?” She asks tear forming the corners of her eyes.

“Go get packed.” I say my words defeated.
