Love Like This *On Hold*

By the title you probably thought "Oh, a love story." But this isn't a love story between two people. This is a love story between a girl and her horse.

6. Chapter 6

Hearing Spark's whinny, I jump out of bed and run to the window. Mam's in the field, trying to catch her. I pull on my jodhpurs and boots, running downstairs.

"What are you doing?" I call.

 "I need to catch her."

 "But, why?"

"Because." I walk into the field and Spark canters over.

"Hey girl," I coo, stroking her neck. I pull my hand away. She's sticky with sweat.

Mam walks up. "I've been trying to catch her for ages. She won't let me," she frowns.

"She's afraid of people. You just have to make her feed and leave it in her stall. She'll go in to eat it." I walk towards the building to get grooming brushes.

It takes only fifteen minutes until she's fully dried again. I give her a mint from my pocket and kiss her ear. She turns her head and snuffles my cheek.

"She really loves you." Mam sounds sad and I frown, confused.

 "You okay?" I ask.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I want to get a dog," she says.

 "Why a dog?"

"I've always wanted one." We talk about Spark then. Mam's standing at the door. Spark's eying her warily.

I begin to massage her as we talk. She closed her eyes and her head drops almost to the ground. Her ears go droopy as I work. I love her so much.

Car tyres crunch over the gravel. I look out; Dad rang and said he has to work late. My blood runs cold; there's a jeep pulling a horse float coming up the drive.

Mam waves at them. "That's why I had to bring Spark in."

Sorry it's short, my old mare died yesterday. I loved her so much and now she's gone. I spent most of my time trying to get her better and when she was sleeping, I logged on for a few minutes to check my notifications.
