8. Chapter 8

I warmed up to Selina after about 15 minutes in the same room. By the time the hour was up, I was comfortable agin.

"Could you tell us what happened now," Bruce asked. Selina gave him The Look, the she-has-been-through-enough-for-the-day-let-her-be look.

I stiffened a bit.then I started talking. "I lied to you, Selina, I do remember what happens that night. The night I was abducted I was injected. It was with a genetically engineered cat DNA. He wrote to think of it as Splicing, only irreversible and you don't see the affects."

"Who told you," Terry asked.

"I didn't know at the time, but I'll get to it. Anyway, that night, a note showed up. Then another the next day, explaining some things. These notes were usually came with a two places, a time and once a blueprint.

"I had to steal something and drop it off at the second location or break someone out of prison. This happened on Friday and Saturday."

I paused and caught my breath. "I scratched your face to see who you were, I thought I recognized your voice. Sorry.

"When you showed up, that's when I knew who Batman was, then you two were talking in the living room." Turning to them I said "Not the best secret meeting ever.

"I read the next note and it said to steal this painting from your house, so I did. I dropped off the painting and stalked the goon, who led me to Powers.

"Then I went underground until Diana told you about me. What you didn't know was that BT was listening. He found me and dumped me in the ocean after he broke me." I paused waiting for something.

"I trust them, but only them," Bass said.

I nodded and told them about my 'death' experience.

"What did they have on you that made you do all this," Selina yelled.

"Nothing," I said looking down. "They had nothing on me."

Terry looked at me. "They knew Selina was the original Catwoman. My guess is that he had evidence on her. That's how you found the suit," he said gently. I nodded.

Bruce and Selina were startled at that. How did he get evidence? That's what they were thinking, I could almost hear them thinking it.

I sat down on the steps waiting. It wasn't Bruce that spoke with a solution as I expected, it was Terry.

"Well, you can't miss any more school, and YOU did nothing wrong. Catwoman on the other hand did nothing that bad. Why not go and give a statement to the police and get back to school. Powers can't really touch you now that they're watching you and Selina. You could probably stay here if you need to."

Everyone looked at Terry with surprise. All but Bruce.

"I knew I chose you for a reason," he said.

"You didn't really have a choice," Terry replied. I smiled at their bickering.

After a while, everyone thought that it was a great idea. I went to the station and gave a lie about how I need some time to myself and that's why I went missing.

As for Powers, I answered honesty, I had never met the guy. The chief seemed to believe me.

That night we moved mine and Selina's stuff into rooms in the Manor. I decided that, to pay for what Bruce was doing, I would clean the house. And it would help me make up for stealing from him.

I put my things in the dresser and put away on the desk. I had few things and I didn't complain, the most expensive thing I had was a cell phone. My most prized things were my books. Most were from my mom and dad. Some I bought and most I found.

I set the books on the book shelf as Terry came in. "Need any help," he asked.

"No, everything's put away," I told him.

"That's it?"

"Yah, we aren't exactly rich." The cats came in to the room at that point.

"Oh yes, I'm expecting and the farther is Black Night. He'll be a great father," Linna was saying.

"Oh, I wish Cash would notice me. I keep trying to get him interested me, but he never seems to notice," Star said growling a bit. I rolled my eyes and ignored them.

The cats were always talking. Most was gossiping. It was annoying at times but useful, too. I was feeling better and more at home than I had in almost a week.
