Sticks & Stones

'Sticks and stones may break your bones' yep, that seems about right; 'but words can never hurt you' what?! I don't know who came up with such a phrase, but I know for a fact it certainly isn't true. I think I've come up with a more accurate saying.

1. Sticks & Stones

Sticks and stones may break your bones,

but they will heel, mend and seal.

Words however, will lodge in your brain,

where they will fester and remain...

At first you won't care

"I'm okay, I swear"

But deep in your heart, the real truth is there

You push it away

Get on with your day

And deal with it all in your own little way

To others unknown,

You feel so alone

But they don't know of the pain you don't show

Tell yourself you're all right,

But the tears, they do fight

Until you lie down in bed at night

Now they've won the war,

The fight is no more

There's only so much of this you can endure

The knotting sensation

Of hurt and frustration

Those friends are not true; this is confirmation

Yet still you don't hate

Or retaliate

What's a harsh word between a good mate?

Now it's a new day

You don't need to say

Of the pain you went through - it will all be okay

Yes, sticks and stones

May break your bones

But words alone break more than bones

They can break your spirit

Or push some to their limit

So why do we think we shouldn't admit it?
