1. Nightmare

"Miyoung, be sure to clean up your toys when you're finished," Umma requested. "Hana, you make sure she does."

"Okay, I will," Miyoung and I answered at the same time. We giggled and I continued helping her with the building blocks.

"Umma, what's that guy doing outside?" Jae asked.

She looked out the window and she seemed a little freaked out. It looked like there was a homeless man lurking on our lawn. He slowly made his way up the steps and started banging on the door. "Jae, take your sisters upstairs and tell your father to call the police." Jae took us upstairs and into his room.

"Hana, what's going on?" Miyoung whimpered.

"I don't know. Everything's going to be okay," I assured and held her close.

"All the lines are busy!" I heard Appa yell. "I'll handle this."

Jae came back into the room. "Jae, what's happening?" I asked

"Nothing, just stay calm."

I heard Appa open the door and then Umma's blood-curdling scream, followed by Appa's. "Umma!!" Miyoung cried and ran downstairs.

"Miyoung! No!" I called and went after her, but Jae held me back. "Jae, what are you doing? We have to help them!"

"There's nothing we can do," he said with a shaky voice. We heard Miyoung scream and cry, but then it all stopped. Jae ran over and shut the door. The only sound we heard flesh being torn apart. I curled up in the corner and cried.

I woke up screaming and crying. Jae ran over and covered my mouth. "Shhh! Do you want them to hear you?" He whispered harshly.

I was shaking and tears were flowing out of my eyes. It's been two months since everything happened. When something like that happens, it scars you... for life.

Jae walked over to the window and peeked out from the curtain. He gave a sigh of relief and came back over to me. "We're okay for now," he said and held me tight. "There's only one problem... we're nearly out of food. We need to get more."

I looked up at him like he had three heads. "Are you crazy!? We can't go out there! We'll get killed!"

"We'll die if we don't get food. There's not many of them out there. I'm sure we can handle it."

"We? If you think I'm going out there, then you're crazy."

"We have to. It's the only way we'll survive."

I hesistated before responding. "Fine. Only because I'm hungry."

"Ready?" Jae asked.

I picked up an axe and sighed. "Yeah. Let's go."

Author's notes;
