The Raggedy Man

It's the year of 2026 and Lily Luna Potter is in her final year of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Lily is eighteen and is ready to decide on what she wants to do in life after her amazing time at Hogwarts. However, a raggedy man in a blue police box arrives and her life is turned upside-down. The wizarding world is in danger and instead of focusing on her future, Lily needs to focus on keeping alive.

1. The Man in the Box

"Wingardium Leviosa!", I whispered, making a spare quill float upwards into the air. I waved my wand lazily and the quill drifted backwards and forwards.

I was sat in the Gryffindor common room alone. Normally the common room was busy; people would be curled up on the plush scarlet sofas, chatting about their day or playing wizard's chess on the table by the window, while the sun set behind the hills. Some people would be practising magic, seeing who could do the best spells. Others would be rushing through a piece of homework that was due the next day.

However, it was the start of the Christmas holidays and I was the only one awake, warming my feet by the fire. I turned to look out the window and saw the snowflakes falling. Hogwarts was truely wonderful at Christmas time. I especially loved on Christmas Day when the Great Hall was decorated. There would be a giant Christmas tree in the corner of the hall adorned with shining baubles and fairy lights, topped with a small angel that could move. She would smile and wave at the first years who would gasp in amazement. Sometimes she would leave the tree and flutter round the room, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Snowflakes would fall softly onto the table from the enchanted ceiling, melting almost as soon as they touched it.

The best thing about Christmas at Hogwarts was the Christmas feast. The silver platters laid on the table would fill magically with the most glorious food you could ever eat; a giant turkey, steaming vegetables and crisp roast potatoes to name just a few. You could eat as much of this as you liked and everyone always ate till they were bursting. Crackers could be heard exploding all over the room, weird and wonderful things erupting from it. One year I had a watch that would scream every time it reached an o'clock ; needless to say I gave it to someone else soon after.

It was my last year at Hogwarts so I had decided to stay for the Christmas holidays. For the majority of  my time at Hogwarts, I would go home for Christmas to see Mum and Dad and visit my Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione. My brothers Albus and James had left Hogwarts already so it would have been nice to see them for Christmas too. I just couldn't bare missing my last Christmas at Hogwarts, seeing as I'd only spent a couple there.

I would miss Hogwarts a lot but I was at the point where I was deciding what to do once I left. Maybe I could become an Auror, a dark wizard catcher. I could even apply to become a teacher at Hogwarts in the future if I wanted to. Thinking about it made me worked up, I didn't want to leave Hogwarts. I loved adventure and trouble, something I could always get into here. I wasn't ready to be serious yet.

I realised I was sighing to myself so I made the decision to go to Hagrid's. Hagrid was the gamekeeper here and he had been for many years, since my parents had attended.

First years would still whisper among themselves and stare at me occasionally, saying "That's the daughter of Harry Potter! THE Harry Potter, who defeated Lord Voldemort!". My father was a legend in the wizarding world. During the second wizarding war, Lord Voldemort planned to take over Hogwarts and rid it of Muggle-born witches and wizards. For years Voldemort had tried to murder my dad but failed and in the Battle of Hogwarts, Dad defeated him. I had heard the whole story so many times now. Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione were his best friends and they too were a great credit to saving the wizarding world.

Voldemort himself had killed my grandmother and grandfather, way before I was born. He then attempted to kill my father using the killing curse, who was just a baby. However Voldemort failed and was left drained, while Dad was left with a lightning shaped scar on his forehead. His mother's love had protected him that night, she had done her best to save her son. Dad had defeated Lord Voldemort twice.

I am named after my grandmother, Lily. I have red hair like her and Mum too. I have Mum's chocolate brown eyes. My dad has the scruffiest black hair imaginable and piercing green eyes behind rounded glasses. Albus and James have his features more than me.

I trudged through the snow down to Hagrid's hut, wrapped up in my Gryffindor scarf and a wooly hat. I shoved my cold hands in my coat pockets, shivering from head to toe. I glanced over at the Dark Forest; I had heard many stories about that place from my relatives and pupils of the school. Many I'm sure were made up but I still didn't want to risk going in there. Anyway, it was forbidden to step foot in there.

I was nearly to Hagrid's hut when I heard a strange noise. The noise was a metallic whirring and whooshing, low and long like some sort of alarm. It was coming from the forest. I could see something blue and I squinted to see what it was. I checked to see no one was coming and edged closer to see what it was. A couple more steps and I would be in the forest. I could see that the blue object was a police box. I looked in confusion at the box, wondering how it got there. Suddenly a man burst out and I yelped and fell backwards onto the ground. The man was wearing a tweed jacket and black trousers with red braces. He had a red bow tie on but it was slightly askew and his dark hair was all over the place. A suitcase was under his arm. He looked around him with a puzzled look on his face. He dropped the suitcase and the contents were scattered on the floor. He scooped up a bit of snow and stared at it for a long time. Then the man noticed me on the floor.

    "This is definitely not Hawaii".
