The Rebel's Influence

Chapter 2

"So, you will go back and do your last lesson, then we don't expect to see you for a week. Understood?" Mrs Spencer asked, I nodded. My dad had left about ten minutes ago once they had agreed on my punishment. She put her head down and acted as if I wasn't even in the room anymore. I took it as my cue to leave and picked up my bag.

As I walked out of the door and shut it silently, trying not to draw any more attention to myself I saw Todd sitting on one of the chairs. I smiled at him and he gestured for me to come over to him. I stood so I was in front of him. "Punishment?"

"I'm excluded for a week after I finish off my last lesson," I huffed. He let out a chuckle and poked his tongue out. "So immature" I muttered whilst walking off. I could hear him laughing as I walked away. I slowly strolled through the corridors as if I didn't have a care in the world. But on the inside I didn't want to face the questions and comments that I would have to endure.

My next lesson was science so I made my way over to the staircase that would lead me there. I dropped my bag to the floor and dragged it behind me. I saw the classroom and let out a groan. It was a good thing that Rebecca had been sent home because she was in a majority of my classes and I didn't feel like seeing her anytime soon.

I pushed the door open begrudgingly and 21 sets of eyes were staring at me. I looked around and pretended not to notice the stares and glares. I looked at the teacher and she nodded before ignoring me. I knew she wouldn't say anything, she let us get away with a lot more than our other teachers would. I dropped my bag to the floor and slid onto the plastic stool, trying my best to ignore the stares.

I opened the book that was on the table in front of me and pulled a pen out of my pocket. I scribbled down the date and listened as the short lady rambled on about sexual intercourse. I looked around and a few boys had huge grins on their faces whilst staring at the girls in our class. One boy stuck his hand out in the direction of a girls chest and she slapped it away before repeatedly punching him. Our teacher still remained unaware.

Two boys in front of me were talking and giggling at the pictures on the board. My science teacher began shouting at them. "Listen! You're so immature! What is wrong with you?"

"Don't worry famalam," the skinnier one said.

"What did you call me?" she asked confused at his choice of language. We all looked around awkwardly, all of the stares previously on me were now focused on what was going on in front of me. "I called you famalam. I'm calling you my close friend. My family. My home boy, you know?" he asked. She stared at him, still confused. A few people giggled. She shot him a quick death glare and then walked back up to the board.

"Mayla?" I turned to my left to see a blonde girl with piercing blue eyes. She smiled at me before asking, "what was all that about? The fight?" I was about to tell her but then I heard the annoying voice shout at me from across the room. "Mayla, would you like to see me after school?" I heard a few wolf whistles but I chose to ignore them. "Not particularly"

"Don't try and be smart, Mayla. Now you have a date with me after school," I nodded as a few idiots raised their eyebrows and gave their opinions on what they thought would happen between us. I felt sick listening to some of the suggestions.

The last lesson passed by quickly and before I knew it, I was making my way out of the school gates. It was starting to get darker now that the winter had approached. My house was a ten to fifteen minute walk from school. I slowly strolled down the familiar road, deciding to take a short cut through the alley way. I looked around cautiously before entering. Although it was probably the length of a street, it took about five minutes off of my journey.

I could hear my boots scuffing against the gravel as I kicked beer cans and dodged broken glass. I was lucky that I wasn't walking through an hour later or it would be dark and full of drunks. There was no doubt that this was a trampy alley way. A sudden gust of wind blew my hair into my face and made my cardigan dance. It went as quick as it came. I removed the hair from in front of my face and then wrapped my cardigan around myself tightly.

I fiddled with the buttons as my hands shook violently due to the cold temperature that had decided to show up without warning. I had finally finished when I turned the corner and saw an unconscious man sprawled out on the floor. I gasped as my eyes widened. Everything disappeared as my attention focused on the muscly man standing in the shadows. I couldn't move, I just stared.

He slowly made his way towards me, his face lightening as he walked out of the darkness. I heard sobbing so I turned my head to my right. A girl, about my age was huddled up into a ball rocking backwards and forwards. Her face was stained with tears and her cheeks were red. She had been crying so much that she was gasping for breath.

I didn't know what to think. An unconscious man, a crying girl and a muscly man that appeared to be walking fine. I didn't know if it was him that had hurt them both.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and redirected my gaze to the familiar face of the man from the shadows. "Don't worry babe, I won't hurt you," he said huskily. I still heard the crying but I couldn't look away from his face. The familiar face. Todd's face.
