Dragon Sword

A blind swordswoman in China seeks revenge on the cunning and deadly Manchu general who killed her parents.

2. blind woman

She moves at a calm and steady pace, just grazing the dusted and rock-strewn path with the iron-shod tip of a bamboo cane. The bamboo is lacquered red and it glistens in the fearsome sunlight like dried blood.

The cane is made from a length of old-growth bamboo from Li province. Bamboo is said to be nature's iron and that from Li province is even tougher than most. Some of the red lacquer coating has been scraped or nicked off by hard use.

The cane sweeps left-right-left in a pendulum motion, the iron tip hardly making any contact with what it touches.

And likewise the blind woman holding it extended seems to float, the frayed straw sandals leaving no mark of her passage over broken stones and dust.
