Requiem: Life on Verigo

Requiem is an epic trilogy, written in an autobiographical style, we get to see the world from the eyes of a street urchin called Rilley Faliin; better known as Daw'ka.

In 'Life on Verigo' we learn about the history of humanity; from them leaving Earth in search of sanctuary, to them colonizing the planet of Astril. Then we follow Daw'ka's life on his home planet of Verigo, as he watches his mother die he knows his life is going to change. He finds love, friends, enemies and tragedy.

1. Prologue

My name was Rilley Faliin. That was the name given to me by my mother, and like most of the choices that she made in her short, unfulfilling life; the naming of her only son was just as fruitless.
My name died along with her all those years ago, since then my identity has changed numerous times. It seems how I am known changes depending what lie I'm telling, and most time a new identity is thrust into my lap and I have no choice.
One name however has stuck with me the longest, and it was a name known across the Empire. By my later supporters it was seen as a beacon of hope that change might have been possible, that our future was once susceptible to change. Even to those that did not know what I stood for my name was somewhat noteworthy, merely mentioning it in public drew a lot of unwanted attention, later it became illegal entirely to have such a word grace your lips. In the eyes of my enemies, my name was something they hated. Feared. If only because it was seen as a symbol of revolution, and symbols are hard things to destroy once they grab hold of the publics' imagination, and that is what they feared the most.
I am known by many other names though but to keep things simple for you let's just refer to me with that one, powerful name. Please, call me Daw'ka.

Now you, dear reader, will have the privilege to learn about the man behind the name, behind the facade. There are many rumours regarding what I have and haven't done and why. A lot of what common people know is fictional of course, propaganda used against me to try and dispel a myth.
I'm writing this to you specifically because you know not of what has been said, your waters are not yet muddied with tall tales and rumours. And also for another reason, an important reason, the reason why I have done all that I have done, but this I will tell you later. But know in your heart that you are the key to everything I have endured, and it's reason will become clear in the end.
However, in order to fully understand where you came from and what your mission is, you require a history lesson.
