1. Chapter 1

Books in my hand and scarf blowing back behind me as I rushed past people on the sidewalk. The wind was harsh on my face with my red freezing cheeks. Many different types of people walked around me. An old women studying a book and looking up every few seconds to see where she was going. A couple leaning against a giant street light close together keeping warm. Oh how I wish I could have a perfect guy. But, that will never happen. My black glasses with sparkles on the side and white designs. My brown hair just a little longer than shoulder length huddled around me and my blue eyes. My best friend, Rachel, found the love of her life in high school. Lucky!

I was paying too much attention that I walked right into someone and my books fell all over the ground. I bent down to gather them, but the person had already got most of them. We stood up and I looked over him as he handed me the books.

He had light brown, short hair that was kind of wavy. His eyes were as blue as the ocean and his nose was just the way I liked it. Not to straight, but not to flat. His lips were puffed up just enough, not to thin and not to huge. His skin was tan, but not too dark. He wore a leather jacket and a gray shirt underneath it. He had jeans on that weren't torn or ripped and he wore them correctly, where they should be.

"I'm so sorry for bumping into you!" his voice sounded exactly the way I imagined heaven should sound like.

"It's ok, it wasn't your fault. I'm the one who should've been watching where I was going instead of looking around, I should've looked ahead instead. Now I'm rambling. I'm so sorry!"

"It's ok, it's ok. I'm Jeff, Jeff Voulee."

"Hi, I'm Erica, Erica Hadden." I shoke his extended hand and I almost fainted. His hand was so smooth. "Wait a second! Are you Jeff Voulee from the Voulee Firm with the lawyers and all."

"Yup, that's us. The lawyers and all. Well actually just the lawyers part. Not much to it." he smiled and his teeth were white and perfectly straight. "Want to get a coffee?" he asked pointing towards the café across the street.

"Sure!" I answered happily.

Once we walked over to the café Jeff opened the door and let me walk in with his hand gently on the middle of my back. We got in line and he let me order first. I ordered my medium hazelnut with cream and sugar and he ordered a medium regular black. We got our coffees and he paid for mine like the gentleman he was, and then went and sat down at a table. We talked about his firm a lot. He said a lot of corny jokes and I laughed at a lot of them.

"Your smile is beautiful." he told me staring into my eyes.

"Then why are you looking at my eyes." I answered back taking a sip of my coffe.

We finished up our coffee and talked a bit more, wishing this would never end, it did. But, the fairytale didn't end there.

"So maybe we could get together for dinner sometime." he said to me as we walked outside the café.

"I would like that." I smiled.

"How about tonight at 7?"

"I'd love to." I gave him my address and  a hug goodbye and he leaned in and kissed me on the cheek lightly. I tried to hide the fact fireworks were exploding inside of me. I walked down the sidewalk and turned around to see if he was still watching me, and in fact he was gazing after me. I turned around and kept walking knowing his gaze was still on me. I looked forward nervous I would walk into another person. Then all of a sudden someone held my shoulder. Expecting it was Jeff I turned around with a huge smile on my face. It wasn't. It was my best friend, Jacob Chalet. I have known Jacob since 7th grade.

"Hey Erica!" exclaimed Jacob

"Hey Jacob!" I answered back. We exchanged a giant hug and thankfully Jeff had already left, so that he didn't see me just give a huge hug to a dude when I'm going on a date with him tonight.

"So what's up, Erica?" he asked me as we started walking down the sidewalk to my apartment.

"Well, I thought I was having a pretty bad Friday morning, but it turned out ok." I answered him thinking of Jeff.

"Is it because I came." He said dreamily. He always does that. It didn't actually mean anything, at least not as far as I knew.

"Oh my gosh! How did you know?!" I asked completely surprised. We both knew I was just fooling around.

"I can read minds." We both laughed. Oh god I loved this kid. We reached my apartment and we walked up to my room where I pulled my key out and we walked into the living room/kitchen. Jacob went and relaxed on my couch while I brought over a snack of my famous brownies.

"Did I ever tell you how much I love your brownies?" he asked staring at the brownie which had one bite taken out of it.

"Yes, you have about 10 million times." I answered laughing a little. He finished up his brownie and put his arm around me while I sat on the couch next to him. I put my head down on his shoulder as he turned the TV on. In a way this did feel like friendship practically siblings. Then, it all of a sudden didn't. Jacob leaned over to me and kissed me! Not on the cheek on the lips! I was so stunned I never knew he liked me. This was new, and awkward. I got up and started tidying things up by straightening the magazines on the table behind the couch.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." he said in a sorrowful voice.

"What would make you think that?" I questioned him.

"Well, whenever you feel uncomfortable you clean." he answered me.

"That's a good answer." I said watering my plants. Jacob got up and came over to me. He took the watering can out of my hands and put it on the table. Then, he put his hands around my waist and pulled me close so that our noses were practically touching. He kissed me again except this time he pushed his lips onto mine and it started hurting, though, the weird part was that when he let me go he felt like the one. No one had ever kissed me like that.

"Did you feel a spark?" he asked me.

Shocking myself I said, yes. He hugged me and I knew what I had to do. I had a date tonight and I couldn't already be dating someone else. I looked up at Jacob. His warm face smiled at me.

"Jacob." I rubbed his arms with my hands. "I can't be with you." I swear his heart stopped.

"Oh." was all he said.

"I'm so sorry Jacob, but I just got together with someone and I'm seeing them tonight."

"Where?" he asked me. Why did he have to ask me this? I had to lie.

"Um, I don't know. He's picking me up here." I couldn't believe I just lied to one of my best friends. But I realized I hadn't, I really never did ask Jeff where we were going. I checked the clock and it read 5 o'clock. I didn't have to start getting ready until 6, but this was an emergency.

"You should probably go I have to start getting ready." I then lied to him. At least that one was actually lying.

"Well, I'm sorry. Bye." with that he left. I felt like crying because it's not everyday you lose your best friend. At least I still have Rachel. I should call her up. I dialed the phone and it rang three times before a male voice came across the phone.

"Hello." the voice said.

"Hi, Devan it's Erika." I spoke into the phone.

"Oh, hey!" he was practically my best friend too.

"Is Rachel there?" I asked him.

"So, you don't want t talk to me?" he joked.

"Well, unless you want to know about my girl problems because my best friend, Chris just kissed me twice and I have a date tonight, but I had no clue he liked me since 7th grade." I didn't tell him everything because I knew his answer to that would just have him put me on with Rachel.

"We could've talked about something else." he said dramatically and then put me on with Rachel.

"Hiya there Erika." Rachel said happily.

"Hey Rachel!"

"So, what's up?" she questioned me.

"My day was going fantastic a really hot guy named Jeff asked me out and he likes me."

"Omg! That is definitely a hot-mazing name." she screeched excited.

"Whats hot-mazing?!" questioned Devan in the background.

"You are hon!" Rachel yelled away from the phone.

"Anyway, that's not the problem!"

"Then what is?!" she asked nervous at what I was going to say.

"Jacob kissed me, twice!"

"Yeah! And the odd part was I actually felt a spark! Now the question is, who do I chose?"

"Well, I think you should try this new Jeff guy because well, he's new you'll have new experiences with him. But, with Jacob you have all those great memories."

"Well, I'll go on the date tonight and see who I like better." I hope it worked.

"I think you should chose Jeff because he's a new beginning a fresh start." she was right.

When it came to 6 o'clock I took a shower and blew my hair dry. I picked out a short navy blue sparkly dress that had a deep V-neck cut. I slipped on my navy blue tall thin heels and glided over into my bathroom. I patted on my makeup and curled my hair. I arranged my hair up into a fancy, but pretty bun you see in those magazines you look through at the salon. My last, and most difficult step, putting my contacts in. When I finished everything I looked at myself in the full length mirror and I thought I looked pretty good. There was a knock on my apartment door and I checked the clock. It read 7 o'clock. He was right on  time. I opened my door and he was THE most handsome guy I had ever seen.

"You look beautiful." he told me.

"You clean up nice." I smiled.

"I am a lawyer." we both laughed a little and he escorted me downstairs. When we got downstairs a black limo waited for us.

"Oh my gosh!" I said stunned. He looked at me and smiled. We got in and drove to the restaurant. It was Fabulet, probably one of the most fanciest restaurants I've ever seen.

We sat at a comfy two-seated table. He ordered the lobster bisc and I ordered the salmon a la twai. We both got red wine with our meal. We talked and laughed and I had a wonderful time. We shared a chocolate cake for dessert. I was definitely going to the gym tomorrow. We got back into the limo and on the way back to my apartment we drank champagne.

"I love you!" he said staring into my eyes.

"I do too!" I blurted out shocked. I didn't even think twice. He leaned in and kissed me. He held my head close to his never letting it go. I held his back. He continued to kiss me. Don't tell me this was a make out session. He let me go. But I didn't want it to stop, and apparently neither did he. He grabbed my back and kissed me again while I rubbed my hands through his hair. The car stopped and so did the kissing. He kissed me one last time. When we got back to my apartment we stood right outside the door like in those romantic movies.

"You seem like a great person." he said staring into my eyes.

"Thank you. That's very sweet of you. You're not too bad yourself." I smiled.

"There's no one else I'd rather spend tonight with." he said holding me close.

"I agree completely!" with that he leaned in and kissed me. It was so romantic. His lips were smooth and I couldn't believe he was kissing me again! He looked down at me. Then, he just walked down the hall as I stared after him. As soon as he got into the elevator I took my key out and unlocked the door. Once I got inside I thought about that last moment for a little. He seemed to have ran away pretty quickly. As a matter of fact that was too quick. I wrote down on a piece of paper to remind myself to ask him about that. It was a little suspicious. Though, I was exhausted so I decided, right after that, to go to bed.
