About an MMA fighter who refuses to stay down after being constantly beaten up

7. Hospital Room

I awoke inaa small room, lying on a comfortable bed, but not my bed. All I could see was the white ceiling, which forced me to keep my eyes squinted due to its brightness. I lied there still. I could still feel the rage inside of me. I wanted to hit something, or more specifically someone, Brick. My emotions changed quickly as my head suddenly filled with thoughts of Tairisha. Her captivating dark green eyes looking into mine, her warm hands caressing my hair, her soft lips kissing mine. I tried to sit up to get a better view of where I was but as soon as I moved, I felt nauseous. I lied down again to try and relax my body.

"How you feeling kid, rough I'm guessing?" I heard a deep voice say. I couldn't put my finger on it but there was a familiarity of this voice.

I squirmed my body around so that I could face the person who was talking to me. Again I felt nauseous. Eventually I was facing the man who had spoken to me. My vision was still blurred and all they managed to pick up was a person sitting on a chair, wearing a white jacket. From this I deduced that this man was a doctor. Great, Brick had beaten me so bad that I was in intensive care, probably with stitches covering my face.

"So, I'm in hospital then?" I asked depressingly.

I gave a disheartening sigh, "How bad was I beaten up then, Doctor?"

"Firstly, you'd be surprised at how well you came out of this. Secondly, I'm not a Doctor."

I could feel my eyes widen at this surprising news, "So, who are you then?" I asked confused.

"My name is Hugh, Hugh Hillgard." He said cooly.

It suddenly hit me. I now knew where I had heard this voice, it belonged to Mr Hillgard of the university. How had I not realised this before? My eyes slowly regained their focus and I saw that oh so recognisable face. He sat there quietly and motionless.

"Mr Hillgard, why are you here in my hospital room?" I weakly asked.

He sat on the chair to the side of my bed, with his legs crossed and stroking his beard. He refrained from making eye contact with me and continually stared at the floor. I patiently waited for him to reply to me. After a few silent seconds he spoke softly to me

"Andre, do you remember anything about last night?" He asked motionlessly.

I took a moment to think. I could remember a lot of what had happenned but I cautiously reviewed what I could and couldn't say to him. I had some very clear memories of what had happenned between me and Tairisha, but I didn't want to tell him about that, it was personal. I also had some vivid memories of the fight. However, I also wanted to avoid saying anything about that to him because I didn't want him to think ill of me. He would probably have me expelled from the university, and that was the last thing I wanted. Eventually I replied to him by telling him that last night was vague and that there wasn't any clear memories about what had taken place. Mr Hillgards expression suggested that he knew I was lying. He gave a small chuckle, light-hearted but not sarcastic.

"It's ok, you don't have to tell me anything to do with your love life, frankly I don't care. Although, if you didn't want people to know, you may have thought of a less public place to show your affections. Oh, and Tairisha was perhaps a little too descriptive at what happenned."

We both gave a small laugh at this. But how did he see us? Did he happen to be walking by the pub at the time? Mr Hillgard continued to speak in a calm manner.

"Adding to that Andre, your place in the university is still safe, if you still want it," He said sluggishly. I didn't know what he meant by this so I chose to ignore the comment. "What I do need to know is if there were any details you remember anything about your fight with Brick."

This was the first time so far that he had made eye contact with me. Again, it go me concerned at how he had known about this. Slowly, I nodded to Mr Hillgard to show that I did have some memory of what had happenned. Although I didn't particularly want to talk about my face being continuously pounded by the huge fists of Brick.

"Do you remember any of the shots you gave to him?" He asked thoughtfully.

Again I nodded my head slowly. As far as I was concerned, that wasn't of importance because at the end of the day I got a few lucky shots in at Brick, while he caused so much damage to me that I had to spend the night in a hospital ward. I frowned at this thought.

"Earlier, you asked me why I was here with you in this room," he started. He tookk a small breath before continuing, "I'll tell you, but first lets see if we can get you sitting up right."

He came over and gently helped me up to a sitting position but it didn't stop the nauseating feeling in my churning stomach. Mr Hillgard also offered to rearrange my pillows so that I was more comfortable. Once he was done he sat back down on his chair and started stroking his goatee again.

"Comfortable?" he asked.

I nodded my head in approval.

"Good," he gave a quick yet slightly nervous smile.
