22. Carmella's Story Part 6:

I continue to pretend rummaging through my locker for something as I wait for everyone around me to head to Wave 2 lunch. The whole day I've been thinking about how screwed up my life is because of Shayla.

Hah, what a joke she was to me. Everything to her is just a game, I guess. Just like Katie. Everything to her is just a game, too. I roll my eyes with my head in my locker. Hm, maybe they should go out with each other!

I let out a small laugh and the girl next to my locker gives me a weird look. "Oh, just thought of something funny." I say, awkwardly.

The girl shuts her locker and nods her head slowly as she backs away. Once she's gone, I look around to make sure I'm alone in the hall. When I realize that I am, I slam my locker shut and turn around. I lean against the locker, letting myself slide right down to the cold tiled floor.

I sit there, staring at the row of lockers parallel to me. Why? Why did I think I could trust her so much?

No, I tell myself. Why did she do this? She seemed like such a sweet girl. Hah, guess you can't have extremely beautiful looks and a trustworthy personality. Well, that's what I'm gonna start believing, anyway. Never trust a gorgeous girl when she says she likes you. RUN AWAY!

"Carmella," At the sound of that voice my eye twitches and I look up to see Shayla standing above me with sad, glimmering eyes. Speak of the devil. "I'm sorry about this morning. I just don't understand exactly what's going on." She insists. I start to feel bad for a second, I start to have that longing to laugh with her. Oh God. When a gorgeous girl tries to apologize to you-also RUN AWAY!

I push myself up onto my feet and turn away from her, walking down the hallway. Where am I going? Not sure. I left my lunch money in my locker and that would be really awkward to just turn around and go get it. That would ruin the dramatic moment.

"Carmella, wait! Please! Can we just talk?!" She yells after me.

Talk? She thinks after all this we can just have a little talk?! I whirl around to face her with an amused expression. "Oh, actually, there was something I didn't get the chance to say to you this morning when you walked off." She waits for me to tell her, "Screw you!"

Her facial features all droop at once with dejection after hearing me say that to her. I continue to walk away when she stops me again.

"I just wanna know what I did to hurt you, Carmella!" I slowly shake my head and she continues, "I'm sorry about what I said this morning. I think everyone already knows you're bi, so you're not pretending."

"Well, it doesn't matter if they know or not. Mitch thinks I was cheating with you. But in reality, you're the one who was cheating on your girlfriend. You know? The one you forgot to mention when you kissed me." I cross my arms and lift my chin up with full confidence.

Her facial features contort with puzzlement. "Uhm, what on Earth are you talking about? I'm not dating anyone. I don't know where you got this silly information from, but it's completely incorrect. Check your sources next time?"

"Mhm, I'm sure it is." I sneer, crossing my arms around my waist. "I guess the fact that I clearly saw you two together, yesterday isn't enough. Not to mention, I saw you kiss her on the cheeks and she seemed to happily return the favor!" I clasp my hands together and flap my eyelashes rapidly, mocking their enthusiasm when they were together.

Shayla suddenly laughs out loud, rushing a hand through her silky brown hair and mouthing the words Oh my God to herself. I stand there, very confused.

"Hah, well you can either love me or hate me, Carmella. And in this case you hate me. You hate me for greeting my cousin from Paris, Victoria. She flew all the way out here to visit us at our new home. She'll be staying with us for about a week. She just arrived yesterday as a surprise, so sorry I didn't update you." She gives me a dirty look I'll never forget, as she turns on her heel and struts away to the lunch room in her purple rhinestone pumps.

I stand there, feeling ridiculously senseless. Why didn't I bother to think about that? This whole time I've been accusing Shayla of being the bad guy, but really, it's me.
