Historical Fiction Writing Competition

A Historical Fiction Writing Competition!

Write your own version on the days of old...

For centuries, authors have manipulated history to suit their purposes: crafting captivating characters out of ominous historical figures and forging memorable stories from the murky waters of history. From the Elizabethan era to the Roaring Twenties, historical fiction boasts a vivacious past in the writing world.

And who hasn’t dreamed of rewriting history? Who hasn’t wondered what would have happened if the Roman Empire had not fallen - or if colonists hadn’t won the American Revolution?

Maybe it’s time to take history into your own hands ― and this competition gives you the chance to do just that.

How to Participate

Historical fiction is simply a story set in the past, and what time period in the past can be up to you. There's no reason why you can't write a regular story with your own fictional characters or a fanfic taking place in the past - which makes us want to say "historicalfic" :)

More interested in designing your own cover or creating fanart? You can also do that, but your cover/fanart must pertain to a particular entry in this competition.

Winning entries will be shared on Movellas' social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.)

Best Historical Fiction will receive a copy of Dragon Teeth by Michael Crichton, or a $25 Amazon gift card!

Best Historical Fanfiction will receive a hardcover copy of Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson, or a $20 Amazon gift card.

Best Cover or Fanart will receive a paperback copy of The Hangman's Daughter by Oliver Pötzsch, or a $15 Amazon gift card.

Open globally

Multiple entries allowed (maximum - 3)

NOTE: Covers must use resources licensed under CC0, or Public Domain. If you’re creating something that will be listed as a fan work, then you may use resources relating to your chosen fan-base (or combination of fan-bases), but it must be listed as fanfiction when you release it on Movellas.
