Dreams: A Writing Competition

Dreams are filled with so much information, more information than we care to admit to others …

Is your dream telling a story?

Dreams are one of the many mysteries of Life. There are moments in our dreams where we want to remember after awakening, and then there are dreams we want to forget forever. Understandably, dreams tell stories, and many stories begin within dreams. Writing about dreams is something we don’t always do. Telling a story based on a dream, or maybe even just trying to create a story that revolves around a dream you once had? Now that is a CHALLENGE!

Sometimes, our dreams can become nightmares! Seeing that we are in November, and we said our farewell to Halloween. I think it’s the perfect time of year to start writing about our dreams and nightmares! For inspiration on dreams, and maybe to find some meaning behind them: I recommend searching “Dream Meanings” and then search for key parts of that dream. An example of this would be: “Drowning,” and then you would be able to write a story with meaning.

How to Participate

We want to challenge you to write a captivating movella about a dream you may have had in the past or a recent dream. It can be a dream you may not understand but wish to tell its story as others may be able to decipher your dream for you. It can be anything from a short story to a poem to a fanfic with a twist - as long as the story is based on a dream or nightmare.

This is not limited to writing either, feel free to create a cover or fanart based a dream of your choice (or a dream you may have heard from someone else)

Other examples of stories based on dreams include: Stay Awake by Dan Chaon, Zone One by Colson Whitehead, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Our final example to share with you would be a story written by: Stephen King known as: Misery.
