Trapped In A Virtual Reality

Ever feel like the world on your screen is more real than the world outside your window?

You remember how much you loved the Maze Runner series? Well, James Dashner is back and in his latest novel, The Eye of Minds, he terrifies and intrigues us with a story where the world is virtual, but the danger is real.

We were quickly hooked and now, there is nothing you can do, you will be too!

Michael is a gamer. And like most gamers, he almost spends more time on the VirtNet than in the actual world. The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and it’s addictive. Thanks to technology, anyone with enough money can experience fantasy worlds, risk their life without the chance of death, or just hang around with Virt-friends. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Why bother following the rules when most of them are dumb, anyway?

Hooked yet? What about after having a read of the incredible extract on Movellas?

So with equal measures of fear and excitement, we have been exploring virtual reality and cyber crime... and now we are asking you to do the same thing. We are challenging you to write a story of no more than 3,000 words inspired by the worlds of virtual reality and Dashner's The Eye of Minds. This can be Mortality Doctrine fan fiction or an original story. This contest is only open to participants from the UK and IE.

What's the prize we hear you ask? Only an exclusive email Q&A for the overall winner with James Dashner himself and a selection of Sci-Fi books for 3 runners up, courtesy of Random House Children's.

First up, you are probably going to want to get hold of a copy of the incredible The Eye of Minds, regardless of whether you are entering the contest:

And once you have read the book, be sure to get involved in our The Eye of Minds book club!

And one more thing! You could come and meet the man himself too – James Dasher is coming to the UK and Ireland in December and will be signing copies and reading from The Eye of Minds. Come and see him in London at The Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Avenue, Monday 2nd December, 6pm, or in Dublin at Easons, O’Connell Street, Thursday 5th December, 6pm.
