Sci-fi: Write The Future

writing + imagination + science = Movellas writing contest

What will the future look like?

Fiction has always been an incredible way to explore this - to prophesize, to warn, to inform or to scare...

From Frankenstein to H.G. Wells to Orson Scott Card - sci-fi has produced some of the most thought provoking and exciting writing of all time. Now is your chance to kick your imagination into gear, start thinking forward ten, twenty or two-hundred years, and plot the most kick ass sci-fi story.

The only requirement is that your movella is no more than 3,000 words (a challenge for some of you, but trying to write shorter and more stripped back pieces is a great way to improve your writing). You can be inspired by your favourite book or song, something that terrifies or excites you, an image or even a film.

TEN winners will receive a pack of three awesome books. While you are waiting for inpsiration to hit you, be sure to check them all out:

Leaving the beach, 17 year old Janelle is hit by a truck and killed. And then she wakes up. If she was brought back to life, it must be for a reason.

Stop the countdown. Save the world.

Department 19

In a secret supernatural battle that's been raging for decades, the stakes have just been raised - and they're not wooden anymore. Meet Department 19: Secretly saving the world since 1892...

What's Left of Me

Imagine you have two minds, sharing one body. You and your other self are closer than twins, better than friends. You have known each other forever. Now meet Eva and Addie. They don't have to imagine.

In addition to writing a sci-fi story you are, as usual, more than welcome to make a cool cover and a trailer. You can enter the competition by pressing the big green button in the top right of the screen.
