NaNoWriMo Pep Talk

NaNoWriMo Pep Talk

A blog to inspire you in National Novel Writing Month this year

You’ve done something amazing. You’ve pledged to the world that you’re ready to write this book. Granted, the book may seem to write you at times, but no matter.

You are ready.

Well, you may not be ready, but that’s okay. You are dedicated, and I applaud you.

You are already a superhero. Finishing the book comes later, but now you’ve started something. Something incredible. You could’ve said no. You could’ve made an excuse (like a lot of people do this time of year.) But you didn’t. You are a hero.

You are a writer.

In case you didn’t know, those things are the same.

Of course, I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. It’s not. But that’s okay. You’re going to learn so much more than the people who gave excuses. Even if you don’t write as many words as you want to, you’ve still written more than those writers too scared to take part.

It’s scary and daunting, but the right thing to do. We are writers. We write.

And as I kept telling myself last year, “a love of writing is far greater than any word count.”

Keep going, brave writer. I believe in you.

And so what if it’s not going your way? This might turn into something that sparks a chain of events leading to something wonderful. A character might show up halfway through uninvited and change everything. You might get an idea for an even better novel. I’m not going to lie to you, this could happen. But nothing will happen if you don’t give it a try.

I implore you, join me and over 500,000 writers and write a novel this November. It doesn’t have to be good. We’re not picky. But please. Write with us. We’d be happy to have you :)

There is just one rule this November: write. Write every day. Write as much as you can. And enjoy it.
