A character in the story who is struggling with the fact that he or she is an alien could make for a great alien story. Because we can all understand that being an alien could have some downsides, right? For example, it could be a lot harder to get close to people. I don't know what you would do if you were to meet an alien - if they were real of course because it may shock you but ... they're not - but I would probably run the other way while screaming at the top of my lungs. But that's just me. Maybe you would immediately invite him or her for coffee or something. So let's just pretend that you wouldn't and assume that most people would have some trouble accepting aliens. That could be a downside to being an alien right? I wouldn't like it if people ran away at the sight of me. However, I will get back to my explanation. A struggling character will give us a chance to sympathise with him or her. We will care what happens to this character and once you have that, you have your story. Because when we care about what happens, we will continue reading.

I think that the author of a vampire/alien story should put a lot of thought into the character of the alien/vampire in the story. We can probably all agree that vampires and aliens are mysterious creatures. It's what makes them interesting right? Therefore, you want to know more about them. You want to find out other interesting parts about them. So how big of a disappointment would it be to find out that 'your' alien/vampire isn't actually all that interesting? That's why I think that the character of the alien/vampire is really important to the story.

Also, evil should always be lurking in a great alien/vampire story. Aliens and vampires are beings that can do extraordinary things. But why should we care about that if they don't get the chance to show off a little bit? I don't think that we can love a character who blasts away a person walking in front of him just because he's in a hurry. And we can't have a vampire using his super speed to save a woman from eating an expired hamburger. So when do our characters get to use their abilities? Answer: "When there's evil lurking." So I think that we're now all clear on the fact that lurking evil is a must for a good alien or vampire story.

What makes a great alien story? I think that a great alien story is one where there's constantly new danger looming on the horizon. This will keep us on our toes during the entire story. Especially because anything can happen when aliens are involved. We don't know anything about them so the author can make up anything she wants to and we will be thrilled whatever way she chooses to go. Especially when there's a love story involved. No one can resist a guy protecting his girl from the dangers they're in. I also think that to write a great alien story, the author needs to keep the mystery alive. Like I said, aliens are mysterious. And she needs to keep them that way in order to write an amazing story. If they remain a mystery, we want to keep reading to get just a little bit more information about them every time. So what I'm saying is, danger and mystery with a hint of romance make for a great alien story. And Jennifer L. Armentrout has definitely succeeded in writing one.

I finished Glass Sword like yesterday. It was freaking amazing. The ending though :o. Prepare to hate everyone who's making you wait for the third book because I am there right now, hating with you. No, just kidding because those people are also making the next book possible. But seriously, I need the next book! I love these series!!

@[Christina ] @[Tinhyper] Once you've published the story, come back to this competition page. On the right-hand side of the page just underneath the timer/countdown thing, there's a green button that says "Join this competition." Click on it, and then select the story/stories you want to submit.

I'm working on it. But I signed a publishing contract for Pivotal Moments and have been dealing with everything regarding that lately.

Is that why pivotal moments is no longer available on the site?
