I was dragged up on the streets of the Ridges Estate in North Shields - we were poor but so were most families where i lived.
I left school at 15 years of age on the friday and started my working life as a fish filleter on North Shields Fish Quay. born with a severe deformity of my left foot and wasting of the muscles in the same leg i had to wear a caliper from the age of 3 years until i was 16 years old. I took up the art of boxing at the age of nine and had a career that lasted 22 years - Boxing at international level. a veteran of nearly two hundred bouts (including two bare knuckle fights) i have had an exciting life appearing on television twice as a singer in 1967 when i appeared on "Singalong and jr showtime. I became an advanced qualified boxing coach in 1982 where i continued to coach and box until 1986 when an industrial injury forced retirement. Not to be beaten i took up another sport (snooker) winning the area snooker title five years in a row . i have played snooker at national level. then qualified as a professional snooker referee. i got my England call up in 1997 I continued to referee until 2002 when i became the first World professional snooker coach from North Tyneside. My son who is now 23 has played snooker from the age of 5yrs and i coached him. he won his England badge in 2006 after winning the first medal for his university where he studied sport science. He has coached football in California and now works as a GP referral instructor. I had to wait until i was forty years of age to get an education and i now have five A'S levels. It is my belief that disability is no restriction when taking part in any activity. I've climbed mountains, ab-sailed, canoed, These days i spend my time writing poetry and short stories. i love a challenge and i'm sure that one day i will see my work in print.

There is a grammatical error in the second page I read...( THERE were down the path and in the street in a flash) should it not read ... THEY were down the path and in the street in a flash?

Reading this was like listening in on a conversation I heard many times as a child. You captured the twang perfectly. The people are real with real problems. It's fresh and easy to read.
