Very sad news Adam. Your writing is original, fresh, provocative and thought provoking. Your incessant activity all over the site always made visiting Movellas worthwhile. And your comments on other people's work was always generous and encouraging. (Certain of the comments you made about my scribblings still make me blush - I'm sure some readers think we're related - or that I wrote them.) Wherever you are, Adam, please email me a contact address at ray@johnstonesinfrance.com
    Bon courage.

    Bonjour Jordan Philips,
Thanks for your prompt attention to my last problem - the counter on my short story Black and White Blood now appears to be working perfectly.
But I now have another query:
Have some of the comments in the 1 D debate been removed?
Also, one of my fan who was engaged in this polemic also seems to have disappeared - can you cast any light on this mystery please? His photo has gone and the space shows 'null'.
    Amicalement.

Oops! Sorry Adam, I think I posted this in the wrong place. Hope this is right now.

Bonjour, As you know, apart from posting short stories, I'm pretty slack in getting involved in issues like this. However, I entered the 1D competition trying to take a completely different perspective - deliberately unromantic. To date I see that my Keep on Loving has had only 784 hits. And I guess that 1D fans would give up reading quite quickly when they get the gist of where it's going.
    Tand pis pour mois.

    Bonjour Adam,
Can you cast some light on this?
Have some comments been removed from the 1D discussion?
    Surely not. Hope I'm wrong.
    Amicalement.

    Task 1
Conceit aside, I feel that my best Movella is Bad Faith because it’s a reaction to the overwhelming tidalwave of feel-good writing and escapism that abounds.
The story is about evil, which, although denied by many, is universal, alive, and well.

To those who disagree, I’d like to present some evidence:
Although in the West during the last hundred years or so, the general standard of living and personal wealth increased dramatically for many, to this day, much of the third world still lives in poverty or on the cusp of starvation. Racial and gender equality remain dreams for most, and crimes against women, gays and other minorities often go unpunished. A majority of states have governments that are corrupt, suppressive, and undemocratic. Political, tribal and ethnic conflicts are widespread. Religious intolerance is rife and terrorism universal. The taking, torture and execution of hostages is commonplace. From China to the United States the death penalty is either tolerated or condoned. In some countries it is even popular.
Who would dare to say that evil is not triumphant?

So why hide from the basic facts?
Bad men do bad things in bad faith and no one gives a damn.
If honesty and integrity have a role to play in writing, what else is there to write about? To deny reality or to avoid seeing what goes on around us is tantamount to putting our collective heads in the sand. And it’s an obscenity to ignore the truth.
Well, I’m not suggesting that Bad Faith has a snowball’s hope in hell of redressing the balance. But I do cling to the hope that writing this kind of story will give one or two people (maybe three) a slightly different perspective.

    Task 2
I’m just a scribbler trying to prevent the cumulative effects of old age and alcohol from taking over. Can hardly spell literally theory (see what I mean? Spell check did that), no classes taken, have been writing all my life but on very mundane matters.

    Amicalement.
