He was a soldier, he was trained to fight and he wouldn’t stop fighting until he exhaled his last breath. As long as they fought there was hope.
A dull explosion echoed through the corridors, bringing a shower of dust from the already abused ceiling. The Barrens were coming in.

“Leave him, he’s mine!” Landrel ordered advancing afresh, blade held forwards, coiled and ready to spring. Dutifully the Barrens backed off giving Blaze and Landrel space, the Dinos also stopped firing and a tense silence formed then hung in the air as the two commanders faced each other. Blaze’s mind was spinning with possibilities like an extraction ring in an energy core, if he could take Landrel out he would cut off the head of the Barren attack.

A cloud of dust billowed up, obscuring the breach like a dense snowstorm would. Blaze’s visor penetrated the smog and peering intently he could make out a large Barren siege tank, soldiers swarming round it. They rushed forwards, the tank in the lead, its thick caterpillar treads pulling it over the twisted gates. The Barrens had breached the bastion.

The gates still held... but they had suffered. The left gate was buckled and the right had broken from its housing along the top, they wouldn’t survive a serious attack. A cold hand gripped Blaze, they hadn’t stopped the demolitionists quickly enough. It wouldn’t take the Barrens long to hit the gates with larger weapons and finally bring them down, breaching the bastion.
