mumbled "Intimate Bridal Expo in Hamilton a big hit for more than 100 brides-to-be"

The atmosphere at the Aurora Ballroom in Hamilton’s German American Club was one of pure excitement as more than 100 future brides checked out local vendors at Friday’s Bridal Extravaganza.

From hair and makeup artists to financial planners and travel agents, the event was packed with 20 vendors who covered every aspect that a couple may need when planning their wedding. A plethora of information was presented, along with free appetizers and drinks, and sponsors called the event — a first for them — a success.

The night was planned by a team of four women: Ellen Maziarz, Joyce Brown, Paula Remboski, and Theresa Klunzer, who all agreed that they wanted to use the expo to increase business for merchants in the Hamilton and Mercer County area. “The thing with us is that we all went with local vendors,” Maziarz said.

Ellen Maziarz, who has owned the Arrive in Style Limo service in Hamilton for more than 20 years, was excited to put on a bridal expo because, for years, she was a vendor at events like this. This Friday, she had her first try at being on the manager’s side. Excited about the new renovations of the German American Club, where the expo was held, Maziarz hopes to see more weddings there.

“The first thing a bride gets is a hall,” she said. “Events like this make the hall more of a package.” The vendors were just as ecstatic about the success of the night as the women planning it. Amy Rivell, owner of the Salon Raymond Christopher and Spa said, “The turnout is much bigger than expected for the first time.”

Karen Vernon, owner of Petal Pushers Flowers and Gifts of Hamilton, agreed with Rivell, and was happy to have already gotten multiple appointments for wedding flower consultations within the first hour of the event.

Bride-to-be Danielle Funk has been to a number of bridal expos, but said she likes the smaller, more intimate events like Friday’s expo. “Even if you don’t buy anything, you still get some ideas,” she said, while browsing in the ballroom. Funk plans to get married next May, in a big “princess style” wedding.

While Funk knew exactly what she wanted for her big day, many other brides are indecisive, and organizers of the expo said having everything in one place can help with the decisions.

“Not every bride knows where to start when planning a wedding,” Vendor Helena Chin-Sang of the Hilton Garden Inn in Hamilton said. “So when you have a bridal expo like this, it’s good to have everything in one spot so brides know where to begin.”

Trends in the wedding world are constantly changing. Donna Gorish, of the Eet Gud Bakery in Hamilton commented “Nothing is traditional anymore.” The Bridal Extravaganza allowed her to showcase some of her cakes, from rustic to glamorous.

Gorish, along with multiple other vendors, felt that the show was not too big, yet not too small. “It’s just the perfect size show,” she said. Linda Ramsey of the AAA Travel Agency agreed. “It’s quite lovely, actually,” she said. “Quaint but quality.”

Maziarz walked through her Bridal Extravaganza with an aura of confidence. “I’m impressed. I think it came out really nice,” she said, adding that organizers planned it all in just a few short months.

But of course, Maziarz and her team were not the only individuals who helped make the evening a success. “The vendors were excited to participate,” Maziarz said.

She also credited the solid turnout to the scheduling of the event on a Friday night. Most other expos at which she has been a vendor were on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, but Maziarz had a good feeling about planning this one on a Friday evening, when she figured many people don’t have anything else planned.

Maziarz hopes to continue more wedding and wedding-prepping events like the expo at the German American Club, and is excited about an outdoor garden area planned there for the future.
