Given that I'm shit at describing myself, I'll just ask you to read my poems, there's where you'll learn who I am.

Okay. Lets throw this out there: no one's music taste is better than anybody else's, but the majority is not necessarily right.

We can pretty much all agree on that one, wether we're into Bach or 1D. But living up to those standards is very complicated, and I've yet to meet one person who does not think that his taste is superior to that of a select group of "others". It all boils down to Hume's standard of taste, a little essay which pretty much states this: most people think that their tastes are better than those of others, even if they recognize taste is subjective.

Lets just say I had an incident with a person who didn't quite get this idea. A really humiliating incident, because most people around sided against me, even some of my better friends. It was at school, and the teacher had let us put some music on. I was nearest to the speakers, so I was to be the first one to go and play something. I was in a particularly pretentious mood at that moment, so doing what every pseudo-intellectual teen does all the time, I put some JS Bach, specifically, the fourteenth Goldberg variation, from the 1981 recording by Glenn Gould (damn good if you ask me). This didn't sit well with my school mates. Quite the contrary, they started moaning how that music was boring, lame since it didn't have any lyrics, etc. One said I should put something heavier with lyrics and stuff, like heavy metal, something which I'm known for at school (which I find particularly weird since I hardly ever listen to the stuff). So I go on and put this song I just discovered and really like, Deafheaven's Dream House, a weird updated version of black metal with barely discernible lyrics. Criticism comes immediately, why do I have to play such a depressing and horrible song, and a particular one that hit me hard, one without any danceable beat. I'm getting angry by now, because everyone's getting their turn to put music, but not what they want, but what others do, leaving no room for self expression. I say, Ok, but its the last time i'll change it. I just put shuffle on my Aphex Twin playlist, and see what comes up. Pretty decent start, one of my faves, Girl/Boy, a beautiful melody accompanied by blaring mechanized drums, stops, and overall really weird song. I get massacred by this hardcore rap fan (or Hip hop if you want to call it that), who says that this is bullshit, how can this be called music, its just random drum beatings over and over. He proceeds to take my iPod out of the speakers and play his own music at a blaring volume, while mine was at a decent volume that could be blocked out by pretty much any earphones. Furious, I start arguing that in fact Aphex, is a musical genius, because Philip Glass orchestrated a piece of his, etc, etc. He refuses to listen to any argument, and claims that the most important part of music is how good the songwriter is at lyrics, not random beats and fake melodies. I grant him, that some genres lyrics beats melody, but he refuses to acknowledge that any other structure matters. I end up getting my stuff and storming out of class.

    Sometimes I hate the universe.

The Pianist is a mysterious fellow indeed. He sits at his black piano and softly strokes the shiny keys. Yet, there is more to this mysterious man than his music implies. He has a past of pain, of torment....

    mumbled "Writer's block"

Some of you (the great minority, probably) may have noticed that I've been sort of absent. Yup. Really absent. I just come in here comment on the forums, then disappear for a week. Its not like I haven't been writing, I wrote a 4,000 word essay from last friday to today, but its not what I want to work on. And because I don't write enough, I get stressed, and because I get stressed over not writing, I don't read enough, and because I don't read enough I get stressed, and because I get stressed I miss school deadlines, and the rest, and the rest, and the rest.

It sucks. Not to mention school started. I'm not a big fan of school, never really been, even if its the only place I see my "friends". They're between quotation marks because, well, I don't know, I'm distancing myself. There's us three, usually regarded as some of the smartest guys in the grade, but I feel they're beyond my level. They're up there with the many people who are all better than me in more ways than I want to count, but they're also the kind of person I don't want to be like. I have to admit this somewhere, somewhere where they can't hear:

They're too elitist and snobbish to be around. So what if that girl didn't make the cut for Extended Mathematics? So what if I'm in coordinated sciences instead of separate? So what if that popular guy hasn't read Catcher in the Rye? It shouldn't matter. But it does to them. It does to them, and I don't know how I can be around them.

That's the worst. Try and stay strong. It sucks, I know, I went through 4 years of it but damn when you graduate it will be so much better. I promise you.

Don't compare yourself to other smart kids too much either. I was the "stupidest" (using that term lightly because I had a 4.0 all four years) in my group of nerds. I ended up getting a lot of extra help thanks to being bffs with the valedictorian. I definitely wouldn't have aced AP Chem or AP Physics without them. and I was able to help them in English and in Spanish in return. So don't worry. You have something to offer to the table.
