7. They were waiting for him ?

 *Tristan*
I unlock my door and hurry inside. Luckily I don't have to much to pack up. My mind is already wondering where to go this time, right now getting away is the most important thing though.

As I walk into the living room I suddenly hear a Sound, but even before I have time to turn, I feel a needle slide into my neck. I react on in instinct, clinging the person away, feeling quite satisfied when I hear him hit the wall.

The World is spinning fast and I fall to my knees, what did he inject me with ? I try to focus, I need to fight, but my body won't react and I feel how my consciousness is slipping away. The last thing I feel before sinking into darkness is two men grabbing me, dragging me out of there.

 *Augusta*
I have spend some time thinking about what to do and now with the sun setting, I am on my way over to Mia. I have decided to talk to her about all of this, hoping she Will believe me.

As I walk past the school I hear voice from the empty parking lot, I get this feeling that it is very important, so I sneak closer to listen.

I peak around the corner, seeing the reverend and his two goons. Why are they standing here in a deserted parking lot talking ? I strain my ears to listen.

“And you are sure it can’t get away ? No one will see the fire and call for help in time ?” The reverend sounds tense, even scared as he looks at his helpers.

The smaller of them nods energetically. “Yes Master, certainly, completely sure, he was unconscious and we barricaded the door from the outside. We will never get out alive”.

“And the barn is in a totally deserted area, it’s behind this big empty farmhouse pulled back from the road and with a lot of trees around it”. The tall one say.

The reverend nods, he seems agitated to me. “I hope for Your sake you are right. One lonely vampire who just moved here shouldn’t be a big problem, not even that one”.

I just stand there, like I was struck by lightning. It Can only be Tristan they are talking about. It is hard enough accepting that there might be vampires, the idea that that could be more than one in our small town, no that is not acceptable.

I know I have to do something, no matter what he is and that I am angry with him, no one deserves to die like that. Should I call the fire department ? No, I am not completely sure about the place and the station is quite far away. Also it would raise a lot of questions.

Having a fairly good idea that they are talking about the barn behind five willows farm, I turn in that direction. It has been abandoned since old Olson died last fall.

I run full speed out of the main street, wishing I had a car or even a bike. But I don’t have the time to stop and look for an unlocked bike. Minutes can easily be the deciding factor in life or death here.

It feels like I have been running for hours and my lungs are screaming for air, but I just keep running, I can’t stop now, even if my legs feels like my legs are about to buckle. Finally I can turn down the dirt road to the abandoned farm and I pray that I am right about the place.

Then I spot the smoke from behind the house and I no longer doubt I am at the right place. But did I get here in time ? Do I even dare run to the barn and see if there is time ?

I am lucky, the fire is still mostly in the roof of the barn. They must have been scared of him, wanting to get away as fast as possible, because they had lighted the barn on fire by throwing torches up on the roof. If they had started the fire inside the barn I would never have made it in time.

The barn door has been barred from the outside with a heavy wooden beam and I fear it might be a bit to heavy for me. But using my whole body to push it, I manage, jumping away, letting it fall to the ground. I pull open the big door, looking around. “Tristan are you here ?”

I hear a faint moan from the other end of the barn, and run down there. The fire is eating through the roof in several places, the air is simmering with heat, sparks flying and it smells like a bonfire. I scream and jump to the side as a burning roof beam hits the ground way to close to me.

“Tristan wake up, we need to get out of here”. I shake him desperately. He is much paler than usual and the veins are standing out very visible on his neck. He seems totally gone and his only reaction is a weak groan.

I try grabbing under his arms, pulling him towards the door. But he is so damn heavy and I fear that we Will never get out. What am I to do ? The fire has started to spread in dust and old straw. The smoke is thick, black and choking, making my cough.

Trying again I have to give up fast, after having run here and lifted the beam outside I don't really have any energy or strength left. The sweet is running of me and I start to feel dizzy.

I shake him again, then smacking him across the cheek as heard as I can, yelling at him. “Wake up Tristan, please wake up. I can’t carry you and if we don’t get out we will both burn”.

His eyes open slowly, they are unfocused and blurry and his voice is raw and weak. “Augusta, what are you doing here ? What is happening ? Where are we ?”

“No time for smalltalk Tristan, the barn is burning and we need to get out, now. Can you walk ?” I pull at him to get him up, and he get onto his feet, but he is wobbly and I have to support him.

We slowly make it towards the door, having to zig zag constantly not to be hit by burning debris falling from the roof. The heat is close to being unbearable now.

With my last energy I manage to support him outside and get on a safe distance, before we both collapse on the ground, totally exhausted. I am panting for air, coughing violently. As I lay on my back staring at the Stars, hearing the roaring fire.

When I have gotten my breath back and my head focused, I crawl over Tristan, shaking him again. “Tristan we need to get away from here, someone could come”.

He sits up slowly, he look dizzy and confused and his eyes are still not totally focussed. “They were waiting for me, they were in my house. I can’t go back”.

I close my eyes, wondering what I am doing right now. “No you can’t go home, it’s to dangerous. You can stay in our guestroom for now. Come on I Can hear the firetrucks now”.

He looks at me gratefully as I take his hand, helping him back on his feet. I still have to support him as we walk slowly through the forest and back to my house.

Tristan stops, coughing badly, then he looks at me, like he don’t get it or I have just sprouted horns. “I don’t know how you knew where to find me or why you came.. but thank you”.
