5. Quests To Be Done

The door closed behind them. Carrie nearly jumped.

“Carrie, it’s alright. As long as you’re with me, nothing bad can possibly hurt you.”

“O-Ok, Jess. I believe you on that one.”

They went around the tower, looking for the Angels’ Orb and the Crowns of Pain and Terror.

Then, just as Jessica closed the door to a room, a voice made her jump.

“Princess Jessica. I should have known you would come visit this place. I would have met you at the door.”

A woman with long black hair and purple eyes was near Jessica. Her nails were black, with black fingerless elbow length gloves blending in with her black dress and black knee high boots.

“Are you Lilith?” Jessica asked.

“No, my name is Allison. I’m Lilith’s helper.”

“She’s not a very good one, honestly,” a voice behind Allison boomed. The figure came up beside Allison and looked at Jessica.

This figure wore a midnight black robe, with midnight black hair flowing down her back.

“I’m Lilith. I know Jessica, but what about you?” Lilith said, peering at Carrie.

“I’m Carrie, Jess’s best friend.”

“Nice to meet you, Carrie,” Lilith said politely. Then she said to Jessica, “Why are you here?”

“I need the Angels’ Orb for a ritual to help my group members become immortal, and I was asked by King Daniel of the Netherworld to get the Crowns of Pain and Terror.”

Lilith looked at Jessica warily. “I don’t think so. You may be the Queen of the Netherworld, but that doesn’t mean I’ll yield to your petty demands. I don’t think you’ll be able to handle them. You understand that the Angels’ Orb is very dangerous, and can be used for everything bad and everything good. The Crowns of Pain and Terror, I can understand why the King of the Underworld would want them. Pain and terror are associated with the Underworld. But those crowns are just as dangerous as the Angels’ Orb. I don’t think you want to be as evil as that man is. Speaking of evil, your father is devastated that you’ve turned to the dark side. He called your turning to the dark side a process, a conversion. ”

Jessica stood up straight. “That certainly sounds like my father. He believes that everything is a process. But I assure you, Lilith, that I have the ability to handle them.”

Lilith replied, “If you want the objects, you’ll have to go through me.” She held up a sword.

Jessica grabbed her dagger out of her pocket and pressed the control, turning it into a sword, pointing it at Lilith. “I do not wish to do this to you, Lilith.”

“You’ll have to,” Lilith told her. Then she waved the sword at Jessica, and the two began fighting.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The fight went on. Back and forth, back and forth, like a rocking boat. Jessica dodged Lilith’s attack, but Lilith quickly went back at it, cutting Jessica’s flesh as easily as butter. Jessica hissed in pain, but kept going. She could NOT afford to lose, not now. Not when her members and the King of the Underworld were counting on her.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The swords blurred in the air, making an echo with each hit.

Carrie and Allison watched the fight in suspense, waiting to see what would happen.

Clink! Clang! Clang!

The fight went on for more than a minute. Then finally, Jessica was able to get underneath Lilith’s attacks and jabbed her in the stomach, turning the sword as she brought it out.

Lilith’s face showed surprise and pain. She fell to her knees, falling to the floor on her side. She was dying.

“I’m sorry, Lilith! I didn’t mean to!” Jessica cried, falling to her knees beside Lilith.

“I should have known better than to challenge you, Jessica,” Lilith whispered. “You have proved that you can handle yourself. I wish you good luck, Jessica, and a good future.” With that, Lilith breathed in, and then sighed, closing her eyes. She didn’t take another breath.

Jessica then said, “Lilith?” Lilith didn’t answer.

Jessica didn’t cry. She stood up, looking at Carrie and Allison. Both were looking at her, shock on their faces.

Lilith was dead. Jessica had killed her, unintentionally.

After burying Lilith, Jessica said, “Allison, where are the Angels’ Orb and the Crowns of Pain and Terror?”

“Follow me,” Allison said, shock still inside her. She led them up a flight of stairs, into a hallway lit with torches. The walls were stone. They went into a room holding every magical object that Lilith had found.

“Lilith was looking for a couple other items before she died,” Allison told them.

“What items were they?” Jessica asked.

“The Crown of Fear, the Ethereal Staff of the Underworld, and the Skull of Sorcery.” Allison said.

“The Crown of Fear...Lacak has that,” Jessica said.

Lacak was the boogeyman. He lived to bring fear into children. Jessica had joined up with him for a little while before moving to the Warriors of Hell.

“You know Lacak?” Allison asked.

“I used to work with him,” Jessica said.

“Oh,” Allison said. “How did that work out?”

“Not well, let’s just say that,” Jessica said. She still had the scars from when Lacak had beat her.

“Well, either way, those were the things she was looking for.”

Then Allison began glowing-literally.

“What’s going on?” Allison asked, afraid. “What’s going on?”

“You’re turning into the next dangerous sorceress.”

Then the glowing died down. Allison hadn’t changed physically, except for what she was wearing- a black cloak with a symbol on the cuff: a cursive A.

But mentally, she changed a lot.

“I know everything Lilith did.” Allison said. “Now.”

Jessica smiled. “You’re the next Lilith, Allison.”

Allison beamed.

Then she said, “I want to find those objects. I’ll start right now.”

“Let me know when you find them, okay?” Jessica told her.

“I’ll do that, Jess.” Allison replied.

The Jessica grabbed the Crowns of Pain and Terror and the Angels’ Orb and put them into a bag nearby.

“Goodbye, Allison.”

“Bye, you two. Have fun and be safe. Especially you, Jessica.”

Then the two of them left, closing the door behind them.

Jessica saw a blood red path leading back into the woods.

“Come on, we have to follow that path,” Jessica said to Carrie.

They followed the path and went back down below the earth, into the Underworld.
