4. Masks

I go back down stairs and saw we have a customer. A shady looking guy. Black jacket, jeans, boots, an ugly scar on his right eye, blue hair, grey eyes. I could tell he was a ghoul.

    “Welcome to Anteiku.” I said.

“It took you long enough. I’ve got places to be.” he said with a nasty voice. I gave him his order, a strong black.

“You new?” he asked. I nodded. “Word of advice. Watch out for Yuma and Nera.” he said. Yuma and Nera were two of the oldest employees here. Yuma is a nice guy. Nera, she

could work all day without even breaking a sweat. Why would I have to watch out for them? Touka came down in a light jacket, ready to go somewhere.

“New guy, let’s go.” she said. “Where?” I asked. She didn’t answer. She looked over at the guy I served.

“Hey Naka.” she said. Naka just looked at her. I grabbed my jacket and followed Touka. As we walked toward the door, Kyoma and Hinami walked into Anteiku. I stopped Kyoma.

“Hey Kyoma, can I ask you something?” I said. “Yes.” Kyoma said.

“Your husband worked for a company called Umbrella, right?” She nodded. ¨I don't know how, but I think he had something to do with me becoming a ghoul.” I said. Kyoma gave a worried face. “That’s impossible. He. . . He would never do something like that.” she said. I tried explaining but I got a bad response.

“Stay away from me and my daughter!” she yelled. Her and Hinami went up stairs. Touka and I left.

“Damn it.” I said to myself. I felt guilty for intruding Kyoma like that. After a while, I asked touka the stupidest question.

“So, what’s up with you and Kaneki?” I asked. Touka shot a look at me and said”None of your business.” I backed up.”Okay.” I said “it’s just the way he looks at you. It’s like you two are in love or something.” She just punched me in the mouth. I put my hand up to my mouth. The taste of my own blood felt weird. Like something soothing. I spat out some blood and what looked liked a tooth. Note to self, don’t get on Touka’s bad side. After a few minutes, we came across a stairway that lead to an underground hallway. We walked until we came across a wooden door. We walked into a nice but chaotic room. The walls and floor looked like bamboo, a nice rug in the center of the floor, masks on the walls and on display, posters of metal bands,

and black metal music boomed in the background. A ghoul in all black was sewing feathers onto a small bird mask.

“Uta!” Touka yelled. He just kept working. I walked over to the stereo and turned it off. That got his attention.

“Oh, Touka. Didn’t see you there. Come for another mask, I see” He said with a smile. I could tell he was a ghoul. Evan with his eyes closed, you could tell by his style. All black, showing his chest, half his hair shaved, tattoos all over his body.

“No, new guy here needs a mask.” Touka said as she pointed at me. Uta walked toward me. I was on guard.

“Don’t be afraid, I won't bite.” he said. I followed him into a different room. I sat down on a stool. Uta did his measurements.

“So, what do I call you?” he asked. I didn’t know if I should have answered.

“Niko Winters.” I said. He kept asking me a bunch of questions about my personal life. One question stood out the most.

“Do you have a lady friend?” he asked with a smile.

“What kind of question is that?” I asked. He didn’t answer. “No. If I had to be honest, I’d say no.”

“What about Touka? She seems like your Type” he said.

“Look, she's hot and all, but isn’t she Kaneki’s girl?” I asked. Uta was taking notes.

“I think I have everything I need.” he said. “Your mask should be ready in a few days.” I really am becoming part of the Anteku family, aren't I.
