Rewrite the Stars

Sophia comes from a rich, high class family. Her father is a world renowned brain surgeon, and expects his daughter to follow in his footsteps. However, Sophia's true passion is to sing.
Jake, on the other hand, does not have money and lives in a very small, bare apartment. His mother is sick and isn't able to work, so the only way they are able to get by is through Jake's music. He busks in the street for money, and occasionally plays small gigs in bars.
This is a story of what happens when two completely different worlds collide.

Since a lot of this story revolves around music and songwriting, I will be mentioning some song titles throughout the story. I'll use songs that exist in real life in various points in this story if they fit into the scene. Obviously this is fiction, I'm not trying to claim that these songs are actually my own.
Example - 'Fix You' by Coldplay was mentioned as one of Jake's original songs. In this story, the lyrics were written for his mother.

2. Getting By

Jake's POV

I hear my mother shouting my name from her bedroom. I quickly rush through to see what's wrong.

"Are you okay?" I say, panicked.

"Yes honey, I'm fine. I just wondered if you could pass me my medication and a glass of water."

"Oh..of course...sorry" I stutter, handing her the items.

I leave her bedroom feeling the same relief I feel every day. Every time she calls my name, I worry that something is wrong. She has cancer and I've been taking care of her ever since my father left us 5 years ago. This is made even more difficult as I haven't been able to get a job that pays enough to live on. Our apartment is tiny and rather bare. Most days we are low on food and other necessities. I've been busking in the streets and playing some small gigs in bars whenever I can for extra money. Music is the only thing that really keeps me sane these days. Through all the struggles and the pain, I know I can just pick up my guitar and sing a song to feel better.

I also love to sing for my mother when she's feeling down. She is the one person in the world who truly loves and supports me in everything I do. She's my biggest fan, and I'm hers. Every day, I live in fear of losing her. Without her, I have nobody.

I'm going out busking today because we are running out of food and need money. I get ready to leave and grab my guitar; stopping by my mother's room on the way out.

"Are you sure you're going to be okay today?" I ask.

"Yes, I'm fine. I promise."

"Alright, just call me if you need me okay?"

"I will. Now go, have fun sweetie."

I give her a kiss on the forehead and walk out the door. I begin walking to the high street, just about 10 minutes away from my apartment. This is where most of the nicest and most popular shops and restaurants are, so it's usually very busy. This is the best place to busk when I need more money.

I find a spot outside the shops and place my guitar case on the ground in front of me, for money to be left in by passers by. I begin to play the guitar and sing one of my songs.
