Roughly translated to against all traditions...

King Legolas and Queen Selena are dieties representing the sun and the moon. In their world; known as Statera (meaning balance) each daughter is born representing the moon. She is given a moon name (Diana, Artemis...etc.) Each son is born representing the sun (Apollo, Helios...etc.)

Legolas and Selena are expecting a son, due to the fact that heat radiates from the unborn child...

For the Gender competition.

Not a son of the sun.

Nor a daughter of the moon.

But a daughter of the sun.

The balance is undone.

Queen Selena walks into Nova’s room and finds her not so little daughter sleeping in her bed. She looks out the window and sees the shadows growing darker, she sees the sun and the moon high in the sky. Ever since Nova was born the world was slowly beginning to change. Even though Nova was the only daughter of the sun, the people of Statera were beginning to change. Wearing clothing of different colors, wearing their hair in different styles. Not allowing the rules of gender to define them. Once Selena even saw her maid wearing a beautiful golden dress. It looked quite nice paired with her twilight blue eyes.

Nova opens her silver streaked golden eyes and rubs them with her hands. Her silver star birthmark burns and she winces in pain. She pushes her covers off and runs to her closet. She finds her mother standing waiting with golden boy’s clothes. Nova shakes her head and points to a lovely silver dress hanging up.

“Mummy, I want to wear a dress.” Selena shakes her head and says,

“No, you were born as a son of the sun. You will dress as one.” Nova scowls and shouts.

“I am a daughter of the sun. I want to be one. I’m a girl!” Nova screams.

Selena wriggles her daughter into her boy’s clothing and Nova runs away in anger. Her long hair trailing out behind her. Good thing both genders in Statera wear their hair long. It’s a tradition. The longer your hair, the wiser you were considered to be. Nova keeps running. She runs and runs and runs barely hearing the voices of her mother and father. She runs and collapses beneath a tree, golden tears streak down her face and her skin emits a golden glow in the shape of stars. Her skin glow isn’t considered normal so her clothes help turn her into a proper young lad.

She feels a hand on her shoulder and looks up to see a young girl wearing a simple silver dress, her silver star birthmark glints on her cheek, her skin emits a soft white glow. Her long brown locks shimmer in the sunlight and her sapphire blue eyes hold warmth.

“Why are you crying? Aren’t you the prince? The future king?” Nova looks up and shakes her head. She barely manages to whisper.

“I’m different. I’m a girl. My parents don’t like it. They try to rebalance the scales of Statera but it’s too late. I was born at noon, the sun and the moon were both high in the sky.” The moonchild backs away almost in fear but she just steps back in awe.

“So, Princess Nova? Well I’m Ava. Why do your parents hide you? Regardless of which deity you represent, the bloodline will die anyway.” Nova smiles. She’s taken a liking to Ava.

“You’re the daughter of the sun. Your birth has been foretold for the last century. I’m sorry.” Ava blushes “I’m a bit of a nerd”. Nova smiles and replies.

“Don’t worry. I am too.” She hears voices and knows she must go back to the palace.

“I have to go Ava. But I’ll come tomorrow.” Thus the friendship between the moonchild and the hybrid was born. A bond between two preteens that would never be broken. For years after that first meeting Nova would sneak out of the palace to visit Ava. They would talk, they would look at the sun, sometimes at the stars. They would share stories. Share about their lives. Ava lived a normal life but Nova’s life was far from normal.
