19. Chapter 18

I have been training non stop for the past two days and I’m sore all over. Alex complains that I am working myself to hard but I tell him that I’m ok. I just have this feeling that I need to keep training. Like something is going to happen soon and I need to be prepared.

 

I wipe the sweat from my forehead. My breathing is heavy. “Let’s go again.” I say.

 

Nick sighs. “You shouldn’t push yourself so hard.”

 

I shrug. “I’m ok.”

 

He shakes his head. “You need to take a break.”

 

I frown.

 

Alex nods. “You’ve been going at this for the past two days. You need to give your body some time to rest.”

 

I sigh. “Fine.”

 

Nick nods. “How about we go out for some ice cream or something? Do something relaxing and enjoyable.”

 

I shrug. “Whatever.” I take a drink of water and wipe away the remaining bit of sweat.

 

Alex looks at Nick. “How about instead a game of hide and seek by the lake?”

 

Nick smiles. “The whole pack?”
 

Alex grins. “Might bring the challenge up a little.”

I look at them and frown. I’m not used to seeing them get along. Usually they are at each other’s throats.

 

They both look at me. “What?’ Ales asks.

 

I shake my head. “Nothing.”

 

Everyone else walks out. It gets noisy with excited chatter and boasting on who will find the most people the fastest. I ignore the chatter and slip away while they are all distracted and climb a tree farther away.

 

I hear rustling after a while then footsteps. “Hiding already?” Suzanah asks looking up at me. I shrug.

 

She frowns. “What’s up?”

 

“The sky.” I say like a smart ass. She climbs the tree.

 

“Ok what’s wrong?” She asks sitting next to me.

 

I frown. “Nothing. Everything is fine.”

 

She raises an eyebrow. “Says the one who was just being a smart ass. Come on something's bothering you. You have been training non stop and you’ve had a determined look on your face everytime you got beat and kept wanting to go again until you couldn’t get back up.”

 

I sigh. “I have a bad feeling. Like somethings going to happen and I need to be prepared. I don't know. Maybe I’m being paranoid.” I run my fingers through my hair.

 

She cocks her head. “Maybe your not. Though I think you shouldn’t be pushing yourself as hard as you have been.”

 

I roll my eyes. “I’m fine. I’m still up and moving aren’t I?”

 

She rolls her eyes and pokes at my arm. I wince all my muscles sore. She gives me the look that says ‘need I say more’. I sigh. “Fine I’ll be less intense in training.”

 

She nods. “Good now be quiet. Having both of us up here mixes the scent and makes it harder for them to find us.”

 

I stick my tongue out at her. She smacks me playfully.

 

I rub my arm.

I hear whoever it is start counting. “1….2….3….4….5….6….7….8….9….10! Ready or not here I come!”

 

I listen keeping myself still and my breathing small and silent. Suzanah  smiles her breathing still the same. She stays quiet though.

 

I hear footsteps. “You think up the same thing everytime Suzanah. Just because your scent is mixed with the newest member of our pack doesn’t mean I can’t tell yours apart.”

 

She frowns.

 

I look down and see a guy standing at the base of the tree looking up. He smiles at her. “Found you.”

 

She groans and hops down. “Of course they’ll have you as the seeker the first round.”

 

He laughs. “Because I’m the best tracker.”

 

She sighs. “Well now you’ve got to go find someone else.”

 

He smiles. “Come on don’t be such a sour puss. I’ll find everyone else pretty quickly. The next scent I’m on is that lone wolf.”

 

Suzanah nods. “Ok then hop to it.”

 

He rolls his eyes and walks away. After a few minutes she smiles up at me. She gives me a thumbs up and motions for me to stay up there then heads of in the direction the guy was going.

 

I stay silent and keep my breathing small.

 

You should play more often. It’s tiring watching you try to get rid of the anger about your grandparents leaving.

 

SHUT UP! I can’t help that I’m upset about it. It’s not only about them either and you know it.

 

Yeah yeah the whole danger feel. I feel it to. You still need to relax sometimes.

 

Whatever. You are annoying you know that? You always decide to talk to me at the wrong time.

 

Most of the time that’s when you need it.

 

I roll my eyes. The sound of footsteps catches my ears and I listen as the sound gets closer. I close my eyes and take in a deep breath and relax. It’s just Alex. He walks over to the tree and looks up. He climbs and smiles at me.

 

I frown. “What are you doing up here?” I ask my voice only low enough to where we can hear it.

 

He shrugs. “Confuse the scent further? And figure out what’s been bugging you.”

 

I sigh. “I already told you. I have a bad feeling.”
 

He rolls his eyes. “Come on that can’t be it.”

 

I glare. “That’s it. Now shush.”

 

He frowns as I get up. I climb up onto the next branch. I look and see a sturdy branch from another tree within jumping distance.  I move closer carefully.

 

“What are you doing?” Alex asks concern etched in his voice.

 

I ignore him moving closer.

 

“Abigail.” I hear a slight panic to his voice.

 

I crouch taking am then jump.

 

“ABIGAIL!” He yells and I see his arm go out as if to try to catch me.

 

I land on the branch and clutch it tightly trying to regain my balance. I glare at him. “I’m not trying to kill myself you idiot. Now you’ve given my spot away.”

 

He looks at me shocked.

 

I roll me eyes and walk to the base of the tree.

 

I hear footsteps running. What happened? Nick asks through the link his voice sounding panicked.

 

I sigh. It’s just Alex being overprotective. I jumped from one branch to another. I’m ok.

 

Scared the hell out of all of us. All we heard was him yelling your name with panic. We thought maybe someone slipped by us.

 

Nope. Everything’s fine.

The footsteps slow. Good.

 

I hang of the branch upside down and see him. “Ending the game there?” I ask.

 

He looks at me at first confused then a smile creeps to his lips. “You are a wild one. Well unless you want to stop we’ll keep going.”

 

I shrug. “I really don’t care. It’s up to you.”

 

He shrugs. “Then I guess we’ll keep going. You’re it this time.” He says with a smile.

 

I groan. “Fine.” I flip of the branch and this time they both freak out. I land on the ground and roll. I look at them. “What?”

 

Nick shakes his head. “You are going to give us a heart attack one of these days.”

 

I roll my eyes. “Go hide.”

 

Nick frowns. “That an order?”
 

I shake my head. “Merely telling you something you already know you should be doing.”

 

He sighs. “I’ll let you off the hook this time.” He walks off and I begin counting.

 

I finish and start looking. I close my eyes and take in a deep breath. I catch a faint scent and follow it. I listen to the sound of the leaves blowing through the trees and relax. I make sure my footsteps are silent and barely audible. I’ve freaked out my mom many times because I know how to walk where my feet are light and soundless.

 

I smile as I catch sight of someone’s shirt. I walk slowly. I tap the person and immediately am flipped to the ground. I grunt the air getting knocked out of me. I look up and see the guy who was tracking Suzanah earlier. He frowns and holds out his hand. He’s soaking wet like he took a shower in his clothes. I reach up and he grabs my hand helping me onto my feet.

 

“Sorry I wasn’t expecting anyone to find me. That and I didn’t even hear you.” he says rubbing the back of his neck.

 

I shrug. “My fault. I didn’t want you to hear me coming. Probably should have made some noise.”

 

He looks at me. “How did you catch my scent?”

 

I point to where I cam from. “I was by the tree I was in. You happen to find Suzanah in. By the way I was still in there.”

 

He frowns. “Your scent was faint like you had been there for longer so I thought you had already left.”

 

I shake my head. “Nope.”

 

He cocks his head. “Hmm…. Well I know for next time to check if I smell even the faintest scent.”

 

I nod and go look for everyone else.

 

I find Suzanah towards the middle and find Nick and Alex toward the last people. The last person was a kid a couple years younger and that’s because he hid in the lake and I happened to catch him as he was coming up for air.

 

We play a couple more rounds and I win two out of three of them. We all head inside to get some water or get something to eat. I grab a bottle of water and walk out to sit on the porch because being in there with all of those people raises my anxiety levels.

 

I look out into the forest and enjoy being outside. I used to hate being outside in forests and the thought of all the bugs. Now I love it. I don’t even have a thought to the bugs or snakes or other wild animals that are out there.

 

I see a car pull up and frown as i recognize that it’s Dimitri’s. I’ve been sort of avoiding him the last couple of days because I’m still mad that he thinks of me as a possession. Nick walks out. “I forgot to mention I invited Alpha Dimitri to come hang out and watch a movie with us.”

 

I sigh. “Would have been useful information to know.”

 

Nick sighs. “You can’t avoid him forever. Plus being away from your soul mate can harm both of you. Even more so when you have mated.”

 

I look at him. “I still would have liked to know.”
 

He frowns. “My house Abigail.” is all he says before he goes to greet Dimitri.

 

Dimitri has bags under his eyes and looks like he hasn’t slept. They talk for a little while before the walk over toward the door. NIck walks in but Dimitri turn to look at me.

 

I take a drink of my water and look away from him. I feel him sit next to me and curse my body’s reaction to lean closer to him.

He places a hand on my back. “How many times do I have to say I’m sorry for you to forgive me?” He asks.

 

I look at him. “How about not apologizing and quit calling me your’s like I’m some breakable item that you must protect because it’s your property?”

 

He sighs. “You are not property but you are still mine.”

 

I growl at him and get up. “Then stay away from me.” I walk toward the woods.

 

He grabs my arm and pulls me into his chest. “No.”

 

I look up at him angrily. “No?”

 

He nods looking at me. “I will not stay away from you. You and I are meant to be. You are the luna of my pack and I am the Alpha. You are mine and I will not give you up.”

 

I push at his chest. “Let me go! I am not luna of your pack. I am not your property. I still have a say. It doesn’t matter this ‘made to for each other’ shit.”

 

He growls pushing me up against the wall of the house and pinning me there. “Stop being a little child.”

 

I laugh dryly. “I’m being the little child?”

 

He glares. “Yes. A pouty little child.” He leans forward, “You know I could mark you right now. While you’re vulnerable. I am not that kind of person. Yes you are mine but I would never force myself on you like that.”

 

I growl. “The fact you’re even mentioning it is enough. Now let me go.”

 

He shakes his head. I start to see red.

 

Abigail you need to calm down. You are just being ridiculous now.

 

I can’t calm down.

 

As the thought vanishes so does the red and I feel his lips on a sensitive spot on my neck causing me to shiver. He moves up and kisses my jaw. I try to get angry at him but find it hard. He pulls away and looks at me still keeping me pinned to the wall. “You are mine as I am yours. I am not saying you are my property. I am protective of you because of the feelings I have toward you. I don’t like you touching other males because I will admit I am possessive of you because I don’t want any other male’s thinking they can have you. I’m sorry I lost control. I have and still do regret it.” He says his eyes soft and I sense his words are true.

 

I relax and he pulls me into a hug. He kisses the top of my head. I look up at him. “Am I forgiven?” He asks.

 

I nod.

 

He runs his fingers through my hair. “Good because I haven’t been able to sleep or eat since you’ve been avoiding me.”

 

I hear footsteps and the door open. “You guys going to come watch the movie or sit out there and oogle each other?” Suzanah asks.

 

I roll my eyes and look at her. “We’ll be in, in a minute.”

 

She sighs. “Just keep your clothes on.” She says with a teasing smile.

 

I glare at her and she laughs closing the door.

 

I look back at Dimitri. He moves his arms around my waist and pulls me closer to him. He leans down and kisses me.

 

My eyes flutter closed and I kiss him back. I wrap my arm around his neck as he deepens the kiss. My mind becomes fuzzy and all I know is him and his touch. He pulls away his arms still around me. I’m afraid if he let’s go my legs will give out. You know those kisses that will leave you weak in the knees? Yeah that’s how it felt.

 

He kisses my jaw then neck. He works his way back up and places his lips back on mine in a kiss that leaves me breathless.

 

He pulls away and my breathing is heavy as I open my eyes and look at him.

 

I see he’s breathing heavily as well and the look in his eyes is full of want. I notice his muscles are tense and his eyes are still closed. After a couple minutes he starts to relax and opens his eyes.

 

He looks at me. “I’m ok. Just needed to regain control.” He says then lifts me up off the ground.

 

I wiggle. “Hey. Put me down.”

 

He smiles and throws me over his shoulder. “Let’s go watch that movie.”
