So, I have you for another three whole days and nights she said sexily in his ear then flicked her tongue             inside. The sensation of it thrilled him and he pulled her towards him and carried her into the bedroom where they made love.

It was nine thirty that evening when the both rose and took a shower together where again the thrill of their passion took over and they were making love under the power of the warm water as it caressed them both. Bobby just couldn’t get enough of this woman’s body. She had encapsulated him and he was under her spell. Rachel felt the same about Bobby, she loved his energy and his enthusiasm.

Rachel could have made the work last at least two weeks had she wanted to but she thought that she was just being selfish. The morning Bobby left to return to Tynemouth Rachel had washed and ironed his clothes, he had a clean shirt on to go home in.

“Will I see you again Bobby she asked.’

“It depends on where I have to go Rachel, but I will do my best to get here if I can.

Bobby kissed her at the door before placing his case into the car and driving away.

The three-and-a-half-hour journey back wasn’t a pleasant one with delays because of heavy traffic. It began to rain which made visibility bad. People were still driving like maniacs and the sound of police vehicles and ambulances as they went past told him that there had been another crash.

When he eventually got home it was close to one in the afternoon. Elizabeth was on an early shift at the library so there was no one in the house. He looked around and the house and although the house was tidy, it was nothing like the home he’d just left. He was missing Rachel already, they got on so well together and she was on his intellectual plain.

His affair with Rachel continued and every weekend he was making his way down to Manchester and they were sleeping together.

Bobby was in a bit of a quandary, after six months of lying to Elizabeth and going down to Manchester every weekend to spend time with Rachel he couldn’t go on lying any longer. he’d known Elizabeth Rose since they were both at school where they were good friends and he thought it natural for them to spend the rest of their lives together. He found over the last six months that Rachel provided him with the mental and physical stimuli he craved. Elizabeth would always’ be a friend but no more than that. He realised that he was in love with Rachel.

On the Friday night he finished work he came home and Elizabeth was waiting for him to go to Morrison’s to do the shopping. They drove to the shops whilst Elizabeth told him about her day. His head was buzzing as he wanted to tell her what was going on but couldn’t get a word in edge ways. They got the food as they normally did and packed it away in the boot. He allowed her to put the things into the trolley that he’d normally put back on the shelves.

“Your awfully quiet Bobby, is something wrong?’

Bobby was silent for a moment then he turned to Elizabeth and said. “I’m sorry Liz but I’m leaving.’

“Leaving where said Elizabeth confused?

“I’m leaving you Liz.’

“What have I done said Elizabeth the tears welling up in her eyes.’

“It’s not your fault, it’s mine. I’m to blame.’

“Why?

“I’ve met someone else, I’ve been seeing her for a while now.’

Elizabeth knew that something was wrong she had suspected it for some time.

“You bastard she cried, how could you do this to me. I’ve been so loyal to you and this is how you repay me by screwing some other woman.’

“I’m sorry, I never meant for this to happen Liz but I must be truthful,  I thought that I was in love with you but you were more like a friend.’

“Do you love this woman, is that what you’re saying?

“Yes, I love her, I cannot continue as we are Liz.’

“So, you want a divorce is that what you are saying?

“Yes, I do.’

“What about me, what am I going to do Bobby?

“You’ll be alright Liz, I will let you keep the house. You are a good person, you will meet someone else.’

“But I don’t want anyone else Bobby, I love you.’

“I don’t love you though, I care for you and I hope that we can still be friends but that’s all we will ever be.’

Liz wiped the tears from her eyes before asking” when are you leaving?

“Tonight.’

“Tonight,’ can’t you wait until tomorrow at least, let’s talk, maybe we can put this right?

“We can’t, I can’t Liz, It would never work. I love another woman and if I stayed it would destroy our friendship. Let us part amicably then we can remain good friends.’

Bobby drove back to the house he packed all of his clothes and his record collection and cassette tapes. “I will come back with a van to collect all my fishing tackle. Bobby hugged Elizabeth who was crying again.

“Take care of yourself Liz. I’ll call you okay . Bobby turned and walked towards his car.   “Don’t go Bobby please, don’t leave me she cried.’

Bobby got into his car and drove away.

Elizabeth was numb with shock the man she’d known for over twenty years of her life was gone.

She lay in a fetal position on her bed crying into her pillow. Over and over in her head she blamed herself for Bobby leaving. She also blamed her father for making her the way she was.

She hated him and wanted to hurt him the way he had hurt her.  She also blamed her mother for not protecting her and she blamed her older sister for not having the courage to report her father to the police. If Deborah Jane had done so she would not be a wreck and would have been able to lead a normal life. Instead what was left was a person with mental instability, someone who could not function correctly or forget what had been done to her and that had impacted on her life and her marriage.

All throughout the night her mind was in a turmoil. She could neither sleep think about anything else. Elizabeth could not face         the world or anyone in it. So, for three days she locked herself away in her room only going out to let Kipper out briefly or to visit the loo. She thought about ending her life by taking a handful of tablets. It was Kipper who saved her, he sensed her loneliness and jumped onto the bed and snuggled up next to her.

It was his whimpering that forced her to get up.

She had ignored the phone and there were several messages on the answer phone. Pressing the button, she played them back two were from work wondering where she was and the other from her mother. There were no messages from Bobby.

Elizabeth fed Kipper properly, she had been giving him doggy treats rather than open a tin of dog meat. She ran herself a bath because she felt dirty. She poured some bubble mixture into it and got herself fresh towels from the airing cupboard in the passage. There was a knock at the door the dog was barking frantically so she took hold of his collar and put him in the kitchen. Elizabeth rushed to open it thinking it might be Bobby who had left his set of keys when he went away. She took the chain off the door then opened it a crack. It was two Jehovah’s witnesses at the door.

“What do you think of what is going on in the world today one of them asked?

“Not a bloody lot, goodbye said Elizabeth slamming the door in their faces. She hated being rude but she could not cope with questions today. Walking back to the bathroom she added some cold water to the steaming water before undressing and getting in. She lay there in the water for over an hour before adding more hot water and washing herself. The skin on her hands and feet looked like a prune as she stepped onto the blue bathmat. She quickly dried herself then put on her best blouse and a pair of jeans then fixed her hair and even applied make up in case Bobby called. All day she waited but Bobby didn’t show. The weekend came and went again and she hadn’t heard from Bobby at all. the weeks past and Elizabeth resigned herself that Bobby was not coming back. Then at twenty past seven on the Friday night, two months after he’d first left there was a gentle knock on the door. She looked out of the front window and saw Bobby’s van parked outside.

She hurried in her pink dressing gown to open the door.

“Sorry for being so late, the traffic was horrendous.’

“Come in, how are you?’

“I’m fine Liz and you?

“Well I’ve been better but I’m dealing with it.’ would you like a cup of tea?

“I just thought I’d collect my fishing gear and head back.’
