8. The story that I’ve never told

The story that I’ve told

The story that I’ve never told

Was the one where I took a chance

Walking across the floor

Asking you for a dance.

The story that I’ve never told

Was the one where you held me tight

And told me never to worry again

Because I had won the fight.

It was a story I had read so many times

That I knew it as if it was true.

And I even believed in it sometimes

That was how much I wanted you.

But I had never had the courage

To ask you for one more dance.

I never took the chance

And jumped into the unknown ocean.

I didn’t let it take me

To where I was supposed to be.

The story that I’ve never told

Was the one where we grew old

Together, sitting on the porch

Rocking back and forth.

The story that I’ve never told

Was the one where you held my hand

And we would laugh together

Knowing that this was forever.

It was a story I had read so many times

That I knew it as if it was true.

And I even believed in it sometimes

That was how much I wanted you.

But I had never had the courage

To ask you for one more dance.

I never took the chance

And jumped into the unknown ocean.

I didn’t let it take me

To where I was supposed to be.

I would dream of a better life

Where I was someone’s wife

Where we had children, dog and house

Because you were my spouse.

It was a story I had read so many times

That I knew it as if it was true.

And I even believed in it sometimes

That was how much I wanted you.

But I had never had the courage

To ask you for one more dance.

I never took the chance

And jumped into the unknown ocean.

I didn’t let it take me

To where I was supposed to be.

This was the story that I’ve never told

Because I didn’t have the courage to jump.
