14. Twelve

I end up leaving the party. Kells got sucked in with a few of his friends and Mercedes said that she and Alex are going to drive around. I didn't drive here, so I had to walk home. Luckily that it's only a few blocks away from mine. I just hope that I don't get lost, or worse get kidnapped by someone. I'm about two blocks to my house when I see headlights of a car coming up from behind me. Please keep driving, I think, crossing my fingers. But the driver doesn't drive past me. Instead, it slows down. I mentally sigh. Am I going to have to fight this stranger? The driver rolls down his window. It was Kells with his stupid grin on his face. I throw my head back and sigh with relief.

"Got damn it, Kells! You scared me, thinking you were some rapist or something." He just laughs.

"Wanna ride?" I raise an eyebrow.

"Ride where?" He shrugs.

"Just anywhere. I don't really want to go home right now."

"You had something to drink. Are you even stable to drive right now?" He chuckles.

"It wasn't alcohol. It was Dr. Pepper. I wouldn't be driving if I was drunk, trust me." I look around, thinking about it. I finally shrug my shoulders.

"Whatever." I walk up to the passenger door and Kells smiles at me. When I get inside, he's still staring at me.

"What?" I ask. He shrugs.

"Nothing. Where to?" He asks, changing the subject. I shrug my shoulders again.

"I dunno. I don't know Cleveland like you." He grins.

"Damn right. I know this city inside and out." I roll my eyes at his ego.

"Okay, hot stuff. Slow your roll." He laughs.

"Well then, I'll take you to my favorite area." I nod and lean back against the seat. When we get to the place, I realize it's a restaurant. I scrunch my nose.

"What's this place?" I ask. Kells grins.

"It's called B-Spot Burgers. It's the best burger place ever. One of my favorite places to eat." I nod. When Kells hasn't gotten out of the car, I turn and look at him only to find him looking at me.

"What?" I ask again.

"Do you not eat burgers?" He asks. I frown.

"I love burgers." He grins.

"Good." Then he gets out. I smile and get out too. We walk in and the chef sees Kells and calls his name. Kells nods his head at him.

"Sup, Mike?" Kells calls back.

"Not much, man. Hey, ain't it a little late for a burger, man?" Kells throws his arms up.

"Now you know me, Mike. It's never too late for a burger at your restaurant." Mike just laughs.

"Go ahead and seat yourself, I'll have someone get your orders in a minute."

"Alright, cool." Kells beckons me to follow him. We find a booth and Kells sits down. I slide in across from him and look around at the restaurant. It's not a much, but you can tell it's one of those restaurants that everyone loves and hangs out at. A few seconds later, a black woman walks up to us. She looks to be in her mid-forties. She hands Kells and I a menu. She gives Kells a smirk.

"Now, what in the world are you doing here, Mr. Kells?" Kells gives her a warm smile.

"Oh c'mon, Miss Sharon. You know I gotta stop by every once and while. Let's not hide the fact that you're a big flirt. Someone's gotta keep you in check." The woman who I'm guessing is named Sharon gives a big laugh, leaning her head back. I smile.

"Okay, whatever. Who's your friend?" She asks, pointing to me.

"I'm Odessa." I introduce myself.

"Ooh, that's a pretty name. And a pretty face girl, I ain't seen you around here. Are you new?" I nod.

"Yes, ma'am." She nods.

"Well, baby, welcome to Cleveland. Not much here, I don't know what your folks were thinking on moving up here." Kells gasps.

"Don't tell her that! Cleveland is the best city there is!" Sharon rolls her eyes.

"Boy, stop lying to yourself. The best city is New Orleans, Louisiana." Kells just waves her off and Sharon laughs. I grin at their playful bickering.

"What can I get y'all to drink?"

"I'll have a Dr. Pepper," Kells says. Sharon shakes her head as she scribbles it down.

"Not surprising. And for you, honey?"

"I'll have a Sprite." She nods.

"Okay. I'll be back in a few." Then she turns around and walks back to the kitchen. Kells sighs and throws his arms back onto the back of the booth.

"So. A girl who's covered in tattoos like those has to have a story. What's your story?" I glance at my tattoos.

"What makes you think I have a story?" I question back. Kells grins.

"Everyone has a story. Whether it's good or bad. Plus you got RBF." I roll my eyes.

"Well, I don't feel like talking about my story." Kells nods.

"Understandable. Okay then, tell me one thing about you?" I think about it.

"I like soccer." He scoffs. When he realizes that I'm not kidding, his grin disappears.

"Wait, you're serious?" I nod.

"Shit. You don't look the athletic type." I shrug.

"Do you know how to play?" I nod.

"I used to play on a traveling league." Kells nods.

"Ohh. You're really good then. Well, we got a girls soccer team. You should try out." I shake my head.

"Nah." Kells frowns.

"Why not?" I shrug.

"Just not interested." Kells shakes his head.

"You should do it. If you're that good that you were once on a traveling team, you're good enough to play on a school team. You're at a new school, do something. Don't be like me who is barely going to graduate."

"What are you gonna do when school's done?" Kells grin.

"I'm gonna be a rapper." I raise an eyebrow and grin.

"Oh, really? You can rap?" He nods.

"Alright, give me something." Kells just chuckles and shakes his head.

"Nah. I don't think you'd be able to handle it." I scoff.

"Yeah, right. C'mon. Give me something." He looks out the window. When He doesn't reply, I call him out.

"Pussy." Then I pull my phone out of my pocket and act uninterested. I can tell Kells is looking at me.

"Alright, fine." I grin and look up. He sits up in his seat and rests his arms on the table. He starts rapping the first and second verse of one of Eminem's songs. When he's done, I start clapping my hands. For the first time since I met him, he blushes.

"Ya know, you're really good. Maybe you will become a rapper." He looks up at me with a genuine look.

"Wait, really or are you just fucking with me?" I shake my head.

"Nah, seriously. I think you can do it." He just stares at me.

"What, do you not think you can do it?" He shakes his head.

"No, I think I can. It's been a dream since I was eleven. But other people that I've told either just laugh or give me a stupid look. They don't believe in me and my dream has been dimming since I get made fun of or pushed out of those moments where I can show people what I can do. I write lyrics and stuff and when I get the chance to say it, no one is willing to give it to me. So I was just surprised that you think I actually have a shot unless you're just saying that to please me." I frown.

"I'm being dead ass. I truly think you can become a great rapper." He gives me a true smile.

"Thanks." I smile back. We continue to stare at one another until Sharon comes back with our drinks. Kells instantly looks away.

"Alright, y'all. Here are your drinks." She places them down on the table.

"Thanks, Share. You're truly the best." She smiles at him.

"Stop, young man. You're not going to do that to me again." Kells chuckles before taking a sip of his drink.

"Now, are y'all ready to order?" Kells nod.

"Yeah. Um, I'm gonna get my usual." Sharon smiles as she writes down whatever he usually gets here. Then she looks up at me and I quickly avert my eyes to the menu.

"Uhh, I'll have a burger and fries." Sharon quickly scribbles my order down.

"Okay. Y'alls food will be out in about ten minutes." We both nod at her as we hand her our menus. When she's in the back kitchen, I turn around and find Kells staring at me. Why is he always staring at me? I think to myself.

"Yes?" I answer to him. He blinks a couple of times before grinning.

"Nothing." I squint my eyes at him.

"Why are you always staring at me? Is there something on my face?" He chuckles.

"Nah. I just like staring at you." Then he quickly looks down at his lap. I smile.

After a while, we end up just talking about our favorite rappers and what we liked to do when we were young. He drives me home and before I can reach for the door handle, I feel Kells' hand wrap around my wrist. I turn back around and face him.

"Listen, I'm sure you've heard a lot of stuff about me being a player and all that, but I'm not a bad person. I just like doing crazy things and having fun." I nod. So totally relatable, I think.

"Don't worry. I haven't heard anything bad about you." He grins. When he hasn't let go of my wrist, I give him a questionable look.

"Is there something else you want to say to me?" I ask him. He opens his mouth like he's going to say something, but nothing comes out. Then out of nowhere, he leans across the console and kisses me. I'm in shock for a second before I softly return the kiss. Then I pull away. He finally lets go of my wrist.

"I'll see you later, Kells," I say, giving him a smile. He gives me a grin before nodding.

"See you later." I get out of the car and walk to my front door. I glance back at Kells and he's watching me. Then I unlock the door and walk in. I watch Kells pull away and drive off. I lean up against the door. What am I doing?
