In Between The Trees

I told her not to go, in between those trees were things that you wouldn't even see in your nightmares. But she did anyways, and now it's up to me to find her. I made a promise that if she left that I would come back for her...and I do not break promises.

1. Prologue

We were arguing dead smack middle in the forest. I was trying to convince her but I guess my yelling was getting nowhere far except straight up to the birds.

“Why are you doing this!?” I shouted at Savannah.

She shouted back, “Why do you think Opal!? Me and Sam have been together for 5 years and now, NOW he decides to break up with me for some low life, no good, dog!”

My eyes looked at her with sympathy, but worry. I tried to search for something to say. But the best thing I could come up with was “But that doesn't mean you have to go and run off into the woods!”

She looked at me, speechless. But right when she went to go open her mouth I cut her off. “Listen Savannah, you don't have to do this. I love you, and so does everyone else. Just because one stupid guy doesn’t, doesn’t mean you go run off into whatever that is” I pointed deeper into the forest, I knew what is was, but it was dark outside and there would be nothing guiding her except for the wind.

She sighed heavily and looked up at me. “I'm sorry Opal, but I don't wanna be here anymore, I don't wanna see him and I just wanna be alone...out there” She looked into the woods. I could tell she was lost in thought, I had been where she was before. But this...she's overreacting.

I grabbed her wrist, “Come on, come with me back inside, we’ll have some coffee and talk about it.”

She looked at me with pure anger now. She yanked her wrist back and said “This is exactly what I mean Opal! You don't understand, I don't wanna talk about it! I just wanna run, run and never look back. And I know enough times already that you can't face your problems by running away from them, but you know what? To bad, because I am. I'm gonna run far into those woods, and i’ll stop when I can't run no more!”

I looked at her surprised, she had her teeth gritted and her cheeks were heating up. I guess I really didn't see how much this hurt her. She started to walk away, “Savannah, you don't have to do this you know, and if you do you better be careful, because there's no telling what's out there.” As she got further and further I raised my voice “Savannah I love you and if you don't come back I will find you!...I promise” I whispered that last part...I knew she wouldn't come back...I just knew.
