The Rhyme of the Crows

~~"One for sorrow,
two for mirth,
three for funeral,
four for birth,
five for silver,
six for gold,
and seven for a secret never to be told."~~
Then the screams started.

7. Chapter 7

The door slammed open, three guards flanking a girl with shiny black hair, who was struggling against them and screaming. Her eyes were red from tears, and her voice was rough from the screams. Another guard had heard me screaming, and had banged on my cell to shut me up. Quinn looked out from behind me, looking at the girl, and for once Quinn was silent and stony faced.

The girl was put in her cell and the guard slapped her across the face. "Would you shut up!" She fell to the ground, crying. He slammed the cell door behind him, and walked out. Quinn flipped out of the rope entanglement and walked over to the corner closest to Lauren, the left corner. "Lauren, it's okay. Please calm down," she said.

The girl, dubbed Lauren, sobbed, "It's not okay and I won't calm down!" Tears streamed down her face in a silent wave, and she sniffled. "Those treatments are turning me into an insane monster! I can't deal with this for much longer! I saw them taking Reese into the extreme fear chamber! He's going to come back half dead!" Another sob wracked her body, and she grabbed her legs, rocking back and forth. "I'm starting to wash out, and I haven't even been here for a year! Quinn, what am I gonna do?"

Joey looked at Lauren with sad eyes, but turned away from her. There was a certain silence that overcame the room as Lauren quietly cried. She whispered, "I haven't slept in days." She wiped her eyes, a stony glare replacing her tears. "Those fears are giving my nightmares so I can't sleep. They'll get rid of me soon. I can't take it." She stood up and grabbed the bars on the side of her cage. "I can't take it," she screamed. "Get me out of here! Get me out of this torture-filled hell! Can't you see that they're breaking our minds with these pain filled memories?!"

She turned to us, a look of rage shadowing her face. "They already did it to Quinn! Don't you see? We're next! They're going to break us and make us complacent until we are too insane to function and we'll be no use to them and they'll put us under and study us and kill us in the process and we can't stop it 'cause nobody has ever gotten out and they'll kill all of us eventually and I just want to get out of here!" She sat back down, tears filling her eyes again. Quinn pouted, then jumped back up onto the ropes, sitting on them like a swing. She looked at the doors and gasped.

The doors burst open, four guards walking in step. Lauren shrieked and cowered in the far corner of her cage. The guards opened the door to my cage, so I cowered back. They held ropes, probably to make me come with them. One of them stepped forwards with a taser and said, "Stardust 01, we will take you the easy way or the hard way." I cowered farther in my cage, and two of the other guards surrounding my corner. They tied my wrists together, then my ankles. I struggled and bit my lip to hold back a scream.

A guard grabbed the ankle ropes, then another the wrists. Quinn cried out, "Don't take her! Darling Stardust hasn't even been here long!"

The guard looked at her and said, "Quinn, shut up, or we'll give you a double dose next time." Quinn cowered too, climbing to the top of her ropes. They held me between them, one on each side of me. They took me through the doors, and as the doors closed I could hear Quinn shouting. I bit my lip trying not to scream. No, please no.
