An Unexpected Princess

Martha McCartney is no princess.

Struggling to hold down her fine art degree, up-and-coming acoustic folk band with her best friend Charlie and demanding Oxford-student life, she's close to dropping out and running a sheep farm with her grandparents in the Scottish highlands.

But all that changes when Alfie - Prince Alfred Haversham, first in line to the throne of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, no less - crashes into her life, and all Martha's hopes of normality disappear into dust along with every inch of privacy. Suddenly the whole world wants to know about the "unexpected princess": but is the help of Alfie's older half brother, Prince Felix, really as innocent as it seems?

Can Martha really handle being the commoner setting the royal family alight - or is it the royal family that can't handle her?

1. PROLOGUE - WHO IS PRINCE ALFIE'S NEW GIRL?

AN UNEXPECTED PRINCESS? PRINCE ALFIE SPOTTED WITH TWENTY YEAR OLD STUDENT IN OXFORD CITY CENTRE

It’s the question forever on everyone’s lips when it comes to the first in line to the throne – who exactly is our favourite young prince currently dating? The guesses usually vault between foreign princesses, the daughters of England’s aristocracy and current big screen stars, but this time all past guesses have fallen short. No, this time Prince Alfie has a commoner on his arm, and he looks absolutely SMITTEN.

So who is the lucky lady? Our sources confirm that the brunette in question is in fact twenty-year-old Martha McCartney, a second year fine art student at the University of Oxford. Originally from Glasgow, Miss McCartney is not remotely royal – she is in fact the daughter of two academics and according to a source, lives a very normal student life.

“She’s by no means rich. Martha’s actually usually short on cash, working a waitressing job alongside her degree in order to make ends meet. She often jokes it’s lucky that Alfie is a prince – she can’t afford to pay rent, let alone for dates.

“She and Alfie live in completely different worlds, so it’s quite hard to see how the relationship will actually work. But they seem to really like each other, so maybe that will be enough.”

But will it be enough? If history has told us anything, it’s that royalty and commoners rarely mix. However, the smile on Prince Alfie’s face is undeniable – maybe this new romance will be an exception? Here at Glitz we have every faith in the next royal power couple, even though we’re incredibly jealous of Martha right now!
