2. Chapter 2

Kye's P.O.V.

"You are so crushing on Em aren't you?" James says.  He caught me staring at Gemma.  I look down at my hands.

"Dude!  What happened to being a badass?" He asks surprised.  I look up at him and glare.

"It is still here don't worry about that, I just can't help be a bit different whenever I am around her." I admit.  James is quite before he speaks up again.

"Hey, why don't you go over there and ask Izzy if she knows anything."

"Why would she trust me?" I ask giving him a puzzled look.

"Just say the words crap apple and she will tell you whatever you need to know."  I raise my eyebrow at him amused.

"Crap apple?" I tease smirking.

"Don't even get me started, it is all Em's fault." He says shaking his head.  I bite back laughter, wondering what she did to cause that to be their code word.  I get up and make my way over to Izzy and Em's table.

"Hey, I want to ask you something." I say leaning down and whispering into Izzy's ear.

"What do you want to know?" She whispers back.

"Does," I nod my head subtly towards Em, "like me?" I ask.  She thinks for a second before asking,

"Why should I tell you?"

"Crap apples, that's why." Izzy sighs in defeat.

"Yes she likes you, but tread lightly my friend." She whispers to me.  I nod my head and turn to leave.

"Kye, do you wanna go to the café after school with Iz, James, and I?" I turn back around at the sound of my name coming from her voice.  I hesitate and look too Izzy for support.  She nods her head subtly and urges me to say yes.

"Yea, sure, why not?" I respond. Stupid.  Stupid, stupid, stupid.  I made it sound like I didn't want to go or something.

"Sweet, meet us by the old willow after school, okay?" She says, not seeming to notice my stupid answer.  I nod my head in response not wanting to sound stupid in front of her again and make my way back to James.  I sit next to him, and put my head in my hands.

"Stupid, I am 50 shades of stupid." I groan.

"What do you mean?" James questions.

I tell him what I said and he laughs.  He laughs at me.  Dude, she obviously doesn't care,  she is too innocent to care.  I sigh in relief but give him a good punch on the shoulder.

"What was that for?!" He asks holding his shoulder.

"That was for laughing at me." I inform him.  He rolls his eyes, then smirks at me.  I feel a warm presence behind me and tense up.  I mouth, "it's her isn't it".

"Yes, that would be correct." James says, trying to ignore her, and keep a conversation going.  Just then she steps in between James and I and clears her throat.  We both turn and look at her, giving her our attention.

"James can I talk to you for a second?" She asks.  My tension melts away at the sound of her voice.  How can I fall so hard, so fast, for a girl I barely know?  I have never had a serious relationship with anyone before, because I have never felt like this.

"Sure." James responds nonchalantly.  I send him a worried, and questioning look, but he returns it with a reassuring one.  Em leads him into the supply closet, and as soon as they disappear Izzy's voice is abrupting my thoughts.

"So tonight, at the café, when we are done you are going to give her a ride home, it will be a perfect way to talk to her one on one." She says quickly and quietly.

"What makes you think I want to talk to her?" I cautiously ask.  Izzy gives me a, I'm not stupid, look.

"Ok, you caught me, but what if she doesn't want a ride home from me?"

"Then she will give you a ride home, I will just tell her James and I can't take you home." Izzy states.  She walks back to her table, getting back to work like nothing happened at all.  I notice James and Em have been in the closet for quite a long time and I begin to get worried.  I walk up to the door of the closet and listen in on their conversation.

"Friends with benefits." I hear James suggest.  Sudden jealousy and anger courses through my veins.  I am surprised by this but continue listening.  I hear a crack, followed by an angry Em.

"Really?!," she whisper shouts, disgusted, "I would rather date a guy I just met, then just be someone's 'friend with benefits', that is disgusting." She finishes.  I bite back a laugh, not wanting to get caught.  I hear James chuckling quietly.

"Besides, I doubt he even likes," She pauses briefly, "me." I feel so much sorrow, because I do like her, even if she doesn't believe it.  There is silence for awhile, and just as I am getting ready to turn back and go to my table James pipes up again.

"I can't believe you are being serious," he says, obviously amused, "that guy is totally smitten with you," Smitten?  Who even uses that word anymore?  Focus Kye, focus.

"I mean I love Izzy, but I can't really blame him." He finishes.  The jealousy returns at these words.  I don't want anyone else to want her, only I can want her.  Only I can have her.  I turn around and go back to my seat before I do something stupid.  I sit down and wait for James.  I see James come out of the supply closet, but to my surprise Em doesn't follow.  He sits down with a happy grin, and motions for Iz to come over.

"She likes you bro," James says, "but if you hurt her in anyway you are as good as dead." He warns.

"What are you, her brother?" I ask sarcastically.  James rolls his eyes, and Izzy speaks up.  She explains the plan to James and he agrees with it.  Izzy returns to her seat just as Em walks out of the supply closet.  She looks at Izzy to is absolutely ecstatic, then her gaze wanders to James and I.  I look away so it isn't obvious I was watching her.  A moment later I look up and see her smirk at James and I's own eagerness.  When her eyes meet mine all I can think is, don't ever lose her.

The bell signaling 5th block is over finally rings.  I grab my stuff and go outside.  I am almost to the door when I feel a hand on my arm.

"Hey baby, why don't you come home with me?" A high pitch voice calls out.  Usually I would've at least considered it, but now that I have met Em, the thought is revolting.  I turn and look at the female who is holding onto me.  She is a petite red head who is obviously used to sleeping around.  I admit, I used to do it all the time at my old school, but now?  I don't think so.

"I'm sorry but I am going to have to say no to that." I respond, eager to get out of here.  She sticks out her bottom lip in a pout.

"Are you sure?" She purrs, placing a hand on my chest.

"100% sure, I need to go, and don't touch me." I say hardening my gaze.  She pulls back and I make my way out the door.  I realize, I don't know where the old willow is.  I start looking around, with no sign of it.  Shoot, I think to myself.  Just then I feel another hand on my arm.  I turn around, hardening my gaze, getting ready to tell them off.  I soften my gaze instantaneously when I see who it is.

"Do you need a ride to the café?" Em asks.  I rub the back of my neck and reply,

"Ya, my older brother dropped me off this morning," she nods her head and starts walking into the parking lot.

"The old willow is over there by the way." She says pointing at a spot in the middle of the parking lot.

"To be honest I really didn't know where it was, I would've been so lost." I admit.  She chuckles, and moves her hand down to my wrist.  I had forgotten her hand was even on my arm.  I continue following her until we reach the willow.

"I got Kye, you guys riding together?" Em asks James and Iz who are waiting by the willow.

"Yea, we'll meet you there!" Iz says.  They walk away and get into, what I am assuming is James car, because he is driving.  I turn and look at Em who is still holding my wrist.  I move my hand, intertwining our fingers.  Her eyes widen, and she looks down at our clasped hands.  A blush forms on her cheeks, before she looks up at me.  I smirk and begin swinging my arm.  Hers, naturally, swings with mine, and before we know it we are crazily swinging our arms.  Em has the happiest look on her face, and a cheeky grin to match it.  I smile down at her, and have the sudden urge to swoop her up.  As if sensing my change, she looks up at me and stops swinging her arm.  She looks at me through her eye lashes.  It is so adorable.  I reach forward with my free hand, letting it rest on her cheek.  She bites her lip.  I use my thumb to pull on her lip, causing her to release her lip.  She turns away and begins walking towards the vehicles.

"We should probably get going." She whispers, the blush returning to her face.  I already miss her hand in mine.

"Ya, probably." I mutter.  She clenches her fist and looks at the ground.  She stops walking, and I expect her to say something.  To my surprise she turns and gets into the truck we are standing by.  I look at the truck and whistle.  This is an antique ford truck.  Gosh golly this only makes her better, I think to myself.  I hop in the passenger seat and take in the smell.  It smells like leather and Em.  I smile, as I look out the window.  We get going into town and I turn to look at her.  She has her window open, letting her loose hair flow in the wind.  I smile wider, as she turns towards me.  She gives me a shy smile, before turning her focus back to the road.  After about 5 minutes we reach the café.  She turns the truck off and hops out.  I follow her into the cute little café, and see James and Izzy already waiting for us.  She begins to walk towards them, but then turns to me.

"I'm sorry Kye." She looks down at her feet.

"Sorry for what?" I ask.

"Walking away from you like that, it was really rude of me." She says, seemingly ashamed.  I use my pointer finger to lift her chin up, before looking her in the eyes and saying,

"You have nothing to be sorry about, we just met today, I should be the one saying sorry for doing that so soon."

"Wow." She says, furrowing her brow.

"What?" I ask taken aback.

"I can't believe we only met today, it feels like we have known each other longer."

I laugh, "I agree."  She gives me a small smile and grabs my wrist.  She pulls me to the couch across from the couch Izzy and James are sitting at.  She sits down, patting the spot next to her.  I sit down, but make sure and give her space.

"What took you guys so long?" James asks.  Izzy smacks his leg, getting his attention, and gives him a, shut up now, look.

"Oh, we just decided to take the scenic route." I lie.  Em looks at me relieved.

We continue talking about random things for the next few hours.  Em begins to get tired, so we check the time.

"Oh my goodness I can't believe we have been here for that long!" Em says laughing and yawning.

"We should probably call it a night."  James says, gesturing to his own sleepy girl.

"Well thanks, I feel like I know you guys much better now." I tell them standing up.  Iz stands up and gives me a hug good bye.

"Well of course, it is important to get to know your friends." Iz says yawning.  She says goodbye to Em then makes her way towards the door.  James nods at me, then gives me a wink, gesturing towards Em.

"I'm going to get some coffee." Em says, suddenly jerking out of her light sleep.  She goes and orders a coffee.  Shortly after she comes back with it already most of the way gone.

"Better?" I ask seeing energy dancing in her eyes.

"Much better." She says smiling.  She finishes her coffee, then leads me outside.

"What do you say we go for a walk?" I suggest.  She ponders the thought for a brief second.

"I don't know, it's kind of dark don't you think?" She says, worriedly biting her lip.  I reach out and use my thumb to pull on her lip.  She releases her lip, and blushes.

"So?" I say, "what's wrong with it being dark?"

"Well my mom, you know, darkness," she sighs trying to find the words, "bad people, you know, using the cover of darkness."  I smirk.

"Remember, I am a bad boy, I can protect you." I remind her.

"I saw that earlier today remember." She says.

"Oh ya, well I just needed to protect you." I confess.

"We still need to work on your temper though." She says.

"We?" I question curiously.

"Yes, we, I help you and you help me."

"What do I need to help you with?" I ask confused.

"Well, believe it or not, I am a bit of a short fuse myself." She looks down at her hands while saying this.

"Never would've guessed." I admit, "now, about that walk."

"I told you, darkness and bad guys, remember?"

"And I told you I can protect you." I remind her.

"But you don't know who is out there, besides they have the surprise advantage." She says worried.

"What's the worst that can be out there?" I asked amused.

"A gang, murderer, rapist, kidnapper," she pauses looking at me.  She jabs a finger at my chest, "Heck, you could be trying to kill me, I mean I just met you." She smirks.  I roll my eyes at the thought.

"We will be just fine, now come on." I say grabbing her hand.  I intertwine our fingers and lead her down the sidewalk.  She presses herself against my side, and I untangle our fingers, wrapping my arm around her protectively instead.  She nestles into my side and we continue walking in silence.

"Can we please talk about something." She says.

"What do you need to talk about?" I ask worriedly.

"Anything, I don't like walking in the dark, and it being so quite." She ducks her head, obviously embarrassed.  I look over at her, she is so adorable when she blushes.  No, she is gorgeous, I correct myself.  I lead her into a small alleyway.

"What are you doing?" She questions, looking at our surroundings, "I was right, you are trying to kill me!" She laughs.  Gosh I love her laugh, I think.  I gently push her against the brick wall.  Worry floods her face, and she bites her lip.  I put my hands on either side of her, before using my thumb to pull on her lip.  She stops biting her lip, relaxing a bit.  I lean forward and kiss her forehead.

"So What do you want to talk about?" I whisper, in a deep voice, into her ear.  I feel a shiver run down her, and sigh happily.

"I-I don't know." She stammers.  I look into her eyes looking for anything.  All I find is curiosity, confusion, and worry.  I lean down and nuzzle my face into her neck.  I feel her breath hitch.  She doesn't move.  I leave a trail of butterfly kisses down her neck.  She takes in a shaky breath.  When I hit her collar bone I hear a soft whimper escape her.  Score, I found her sweet spot.  I kiss a little harder right there.  I am about to leave my mark when she speaks up.
