The fall wasn't meant to happen. That part, at least, wasn't planned.
But now, Luke's stuck in a limbo between dream and nightmare and the bottle in his pocket seems to be able to say a lot more about the incident than he can.

4. Drama School; part 1

I wasn't always lonely. Two years ago, I had friends, proper friends, cool friends named Jack and Haymitch. One-Hundred-Percent inseparable, we all shared the same dream - Admittedly a dream that I, myself, with my brother's passion to steer me, had influenced upon them. But, since the age of six, all three of us had been very much in to acting; plays put on in the garden, standing on a home-made stage of a piece of cork board; Dressing up in old sheets of feather boas; playing. Under the careful watch of my three-year-older brother, Harry, who really was set on becoming an actor, the three of us had the best of times, looking up to my big brother as though he was a saint. When he got a scholarship  to the drama school in the city center, everyone, especially us, was exceptionally proud of him. Then, when I signed up to audition, too, things were different. Of course, my family was still just as proud of me as they had been of Harry, but, after being asked to audition, too, Jack and Haymitch grew annoyed. They complained, day after day that I'd lead them to audition and that they'd just fail. I don't think they liked the thought of all the acting, but they still wanted to be famous. So, of course, I helped them. What else could I have done. But they wouldn't have got in if it weren't for me, and they knew it, but loathed it. I didn't care. I was just ecstatic that my two best friends were going to stay a part of his new chapter of my life.

And they did remain in my life. But not in a good way.

On the first day of the new school year, I walked alone to our new school. Haymitch and Jack were "busy", apparently, too busy being driven by Jack's mum to bother with me. Harry, who had gone ahead of me with his girlfriend and a couple of others, had offered to give me a lift - I think he knew my own friends had abandoned me - but either way, he left me In peace when I refused his offer.
